JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – Collectors are getting revved up for an end-of-summer car show.
The 16th annual Johnstown Super Car Cruise will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Greater Johnstown Christian Fellowship, 3429 Elton Road, Richland Township.
The cruise is open to all antiques, classic, tuners, rat rods, trucks, newer vehicles and motorcycles.
“Originally, this was set up as a way to generate some money to donate to various nonprofits in the area,” said Duaine Detrick, a car cruise committee member.
There is a $10-per-vehicle registration fee.
The first 150 registered vehicle owners will receive a dash plaque provided by Krouse Automotive.
“It depends on the weather, but we can normally get between 150 to 300 vehicles,” Detrick said. “The cruise is well-established and attracts from a large geographic area, so people get to see some vehicles that they normally don’t get to see anywhere else. We even get people who trailer their vehicles in because they are coming from further away.”
Three of Hearts will play a variety of oldies and classic music from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
There also will be military displays, a basket raffle, a 50/50 drawing, door prizes, games and the Jennerstown Speedway pace truck.
Vendors will be serving up an array of food such as pizza, Chinese, funnel cake, ice cream, deep-fried Oreos and shaved ice.
Proceeds will benefit Laurel Highlands Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 364.
“It’s been a good partnership, and the nice thing is all that money stays local,” Detrick said. “Last year they took some of the money at Christmastime and bought food for veterans in need so they could have a nice holiday dinner. They also use the money for their programs.”
He said the cruise attracts between 700 to 1,000 people each year.
“People who aren’t even into the old cars come to support the veterans, and they like the music, food and taking a chance on the basket raffle,” Detrick said. “We want people have a nice fun day enjoying the cars and the other activities going on. Our main goal is to support the veterans.”
There is no admission fee.
A rain date has been set for Sept. 13.
