A 1972 Dodge Challenger equipped with a 340 cubic-inch V8 and four-speed manual transmission is set to cross the block at the Spring Carlisle Collector Car Auction , held in conjunction with Spring Carlisle, April 22-26 at the Carlisle PA Fairgrounds in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
Listed as Lot 155 , this Challenger presents a blend of restored originality and subtle modifications, making it a noteworthy entry at the Spring Carlisle Collector Car Auction.
The car is powered by what is described as its original H-code 340 V8, factory rated at 240 horsepower and paired with a four-barrel carburetor. While the original Thermoquad unit has been replaced with a Holley carburetor, the engine is reported to run without any startup or performance concerns. Underhood updates include a chrome air cleaner and aftermarket chrome valve covers, adding a personalized touch.
Power is delivered through a four-speed manual transmission to an 8.75-inch rear axle equipped with a Sure Grip limited-slip differential and 3.23 gears. This drivetrain setup reflects the performance focus that defined Dodge’s muscle cars of the early 1970s.
Finished in Bright Blue Metallic, corresponding to the GB5 paint code listed on the broadcast sheet, the Challenger received basecoat and clearcoat paint during restoration, including refinishing of the floor panels. The body is reported to be rust-free with no known prior damage, and the paint is described as being in very good condition. Chrome, trim, and glass components are also said to present well.
Inside, the white vinyl interior shows light wear consistent with use. Some plastic trim pieces have been refinished, and minor wrinkles are noted in the headliner. The dash pad and steering wheel are reported to be free of cracks. Interior features include Rallye gauges, bucket seats, power steering, and power brakes.
Additional equipment includes a cassette radio with a digital display from the 1980s and aftermarket speakers mounted behind the rear seats. The Challenger rides on BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires mounted on factory 15-inch Rallye wheels, with front disc brakes handling stopping duties.
The seller reports no issues with the steering, suspension, or braking systems. Offered as-is at the Spring Carlisle Collector Car Auction, this 1972 Dodge Challenger represents a solid example of a classic American muscle car with a mix of factory-correct features and later upgrades.
With Spring Carlisle bringing together collectors, enthusiasts, and a wide range of vehicles, this Challenger stands as one of many opportunities to find a classic that balances drivability with vintage appeal.
