Overview
The 2025 Nissan Frontier is a midsize truck with body-on-frame construction that delivers rugged capability, with a maximum towing capacity of 7,150 pounds. A single engine-and-transmission combination is offered across the lineup, in the form of a naturally aspirated 3.8-liter V6 and a nine-speed automatic transmission with rear-wheel drive as standard and four-wheel drive optional. It’s available in either a King Cab or Crew Cab configuration with five- and six-foot bed options. It competes with the usual suspects in this class, namely the Chevrolet Colorado/ GMC Canyon twins, as well as the Ford Ranger and Toyota Tacoma .

What's New for 2025
Mildly refreshed styling features on the 2025 Frontier, starting with a revised front bumper and grille, updated wheel designs for the Pro-X and Pro-4X trims, and a new Afterburn Orange paint color. The tow rating increases to 7,150 pounds this year. On the safety front, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, and lane-departure warning become standard on all trims, and the surround-view camera’s Off-Road mode can now be used up to 12 mph.
On the inside, the dashboard trim is refreshed, wireless Android Auto is now standard, and a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen is now fitted to all but the base S trim. A sunglasses holder in the overhead console, a sliding rear window, and a manually adjustable tilting/telescoping steering column become standard equipment on all trims, while SV, PRO, and SL trims get six-way power adjustment and power lumbar support for the driver’s seat, while a four-way power passenger seat becomes standard on the Pro-X, Pro-4X, and SL trims. Bed availability on Crew Cab trims is expanded, and all Crew Cabs except the S now have access to the longer six-foot bed.

Exterior
The Frontier is as handsome as ever, and its muscular proportions project capability. Two body styles - an extended-cab King Cab and a four-door Crew Cab - continue to be available, and the standard bed length is five feet, with a six-feet bed available. A versatile Utili-track Channel System allows for three bed channels for cargo. The Pro models get updated wheel designs this year, and the Pro-4X benefit from Bilstein off-road dampers. Afterburn Orange is added to the paint palette for MY2025 too.

Interior
The chunky interior design is contemporary and suits a truck, with good quality levels and soft-touch surfaces to offset the harder plastics used elsewhere on the doors and lower dashboard. The standard touchscreen on the S is a bit small at eight inches, but a much larger 12.3-inch unit is fitted to all the other trims. The front Zero Gravity seats are supple enough to provide excellent comfort even on long journeys.
The Crew Cab seats five passengers, but the rear seat is tight for taller adults, though this is often the case in midsize trucks . The King Cab seats four and has even less space in the back; with only 26.2 inches of legroom, it’s strictly for kids. Storage options abound, including a glovebox, dashboard tray, front and rear door pockets, console storage, and full-width under-seat storage in all the Crew Cabs except the S. Heated front seats are standard on the top trims and optional on the SV, and a heated steering wheel can be optioned as part of packages on all but the S.

Verdict
The 2025 Frontier is a capable midsize pickup with a 310-hp/281-lb-ft naturally aspirated 3.8-liter V6 engine that provides strong mid-range punch, coupled to a smooth nine-speed automatic transmission. Its performance is adequate but not class-leading, falling behind the turbocharged four-cylinder Toyota Tacoma. Rear-wheel drive is standard, and four-wheel drive is optional, with a competitive maximum towing capacity that’s been increased to 7,150 pounds this year. A light styling refresh maintains the 2025 model’s appeal, and a new 12.3-inch touchscreen is a boon - and standard on all trims but the base S. Other highlights include comfortable front seats and a very capable Pro-4X off-road trim with Bilstein dampers.
Fuel consumption of 18-21 mpg combined is about what you’d expect from a midsize gas V6 truck, but it falls short of the EPA figures produced by the Tacoma, which varies from 20-23 mpg combined thanks to a downsized turbo-four engine and hybrid options. Cabin quality is decent, but the interior is not as refined as that of some newer rivals, such as the Tacoma and Colorado. The SV stands out as the high-value buy in the lineup, whatever configuration you take, with useful extra features over the S, such as the bigger touchscreen and power driver’s seat.
