Chipotle brings back Pollo Asado and launches Chili Lime Chips (Chipotle )

Chipotle famously does not make changes to their menu often, so when they announce they are launching two limited-time menu items at the same time, it's a very big deal.

In fact, it's such a big deal that it's something they have never done before. But they are bringing back Pollo Asado and launching new Chili Lime chips, and it's all happening at the same time.

We've seen Pollo Asado before, but now it is returning with an all-new recipe, and it'll be accompanied by the launch of Chili Lime chips.

The Pollo Asado is available beginning August 31, and the Chili Lime chips will be available that date as well for Chipotle Rewards members, but roll out to all guests on September 4.

I was lucky enough to be sent an advance media preview tasting of both these items a few weeks ago, and I absolutely loved both. Pollo Asado is made with freshly grilled adobo chicken, and when I gave it a taste as part of a burrito bowl, I could taste the garlic, peppers, Mexican spices and hand-cut cilantro in each bite. The chicken is finished with lime, for a great additional brightness of flavor and paired beautifully with my go-to burrito bowl ingredients, such as the tomatillo-based salsas, guacamole, queso, black beans, and cilantro-lime rice.

"Pollo Asado delivered strong results in testing, giving us clear evidence that guests were  excited about the new recipe," said Fernando Machado, Chief Brand Officer in a press release. "At the same time, we saw guests hacking their Chipotle orders with packaged chips and asked ourselves:  What would this look like done the Chipotle way? Chili Lime Chips are our answer—with no  artificial colors, flavors or preservatives and an ingredient list that doesn't require a chemistry  degree to understand. One menu item generated real momentum before going national; the  other was inspired directly by how our fans eat Chipotle. Together, they gave us two compelling  reasons to do something we've never done before and launch both at once."

The Chili Lime chips have a fun backstory as they were born out of a popular TikTok hack to pair seasoned chips with various Chipotle dishes. Now, they are available in their own right on the menu, and are a fun way to turn your burrito bowl into a walking taco or an order of nachos with an additional kick, although when I tried it at home, I enjoyed it simply dipped in guacamole and queso.

With two big launches all at once, there's pretty much no doubt where my lunch plans will be today.
