  • The major stock indices are all higher at midday on Friday, setting the stage

The major stock indices are all higher at midday on Friday, setting the stage for what appears to be a positive end to what has been a difficult week. Meanwhile, Bitcoin continues to enjoy a mini-Renaissance - up over 7% today and 23% over the past five days, but still down about 12% for the year to date. Over the course of the week, investors have been faced with ongoing earnings reports from major retailers, but attention has been hijacked at least to a degree by rising Treasury yields. And then there is the ongoing but arguably stalled conflict in the Middle East, where investors and the world at large are contemplating an apparent new phase that the White House is calling 'economic warfare.' What that will be and what impact it will have is an unknown. But as is always the case with unknowns, any form of uncertainty is not helpful in the eyes of Wall Street.
