Investor sentiment is not low on catalysts these days. Earnings season is coming to an end and overall results were impressive. The war in Iran seems deadlocked and now is moving into a new 'economic warfare' phase (details TBA). Inflation data of late has led to neither panic nor joy, with a lessening sense that the Fed might raise rates but also little belief that rates will move lower soon. And let's not forget the new plans from the Treasury department to increase bond buybacks, the back-on tariff fight with Canada, and the pending midterm elections. If nothing else, that all leads to uncertainty. For their part, insiders are coming out of earnings season with improving sentiment. All of the major eight-week sell/buy ratios from Vickers Stock Research have improved week over week, but none have yet broken into bullish territory. From a sector view, eight-week data shows seven sectors with neutral sentiment, three with bullish sentiment, and one that is bearish (but teetering on a move into neutral). Drilling deeper, the bullish sectors include Consumer Staples, Healthcare, and Real Estate; the neutral sectors include Communication Services, Consumer Discretionary, Energy, Financial, Industrial, Materials, and Utility; and the one bearish sector is Information Technology. Still, while Information Technology remains bearish, it's reading of 6.2 is considerably improved from its reading of 16.5 from four weeks ago and needs only to dip below 6.0 to enter neutral territory. This week, we highlight insider transactions of interest at Illumina Inc. (NGS: ILMN) and Stryker Corp. (NYSE: SYK).
