tripadvisorWe attempted to stay at this hotel, paid for the night, and then as we drove around the hotel realized that half of the hotel (which had been sold as two parts) was a homeless shelter. The parking lot and hotel were not safe for my daughter and myself, or our car full of luggage. The staff walked through the hotel with us to show us our room initially but never explained why the dark windows off the atrium we not filled with hotel rooms. That was because it was a homeless shelter. So, they give this impression of a high end hotel that charges cheap nightly rates, but they are really a damaged property. Aside from the homeless shelter, the walk from the front desk to the elevator to the rooms was extensive, so it would be better to get into my car and drive around the building to get to the front desk. There are no amenities, at all. The pool was filled in, per another reviewer, there was no accessible sitting areas or common areas. The hotel was very dark, and it looked like an empty beached whale. The elevator itself has a lock on it, you have to use your key to go up to the floors, likely because of the homeless shelter. The parking lot was so full of people and children I thought that someone was having a block party (but they weren't.) I don't mind poor people. I mind staff that omits key pieces of information such as, half our property is a welfare hotel/homeless shelter. I asked for my money back.
MoreStayed at this hotel for a local basketball tournament with a group of teenagers. Price was too much for the lack of amenities. No pool, drained and filled with construction debris. No restaurant, closed Friendly's was attached. No Room Service, unless Dominos delivery counts. Very dark hallways. Room was clean and the doors closed and locked. Sketchy people in the parking lots. Front desk staff was useless. Lobby bar had beer and wine, but not much else. This must have been a decent place in the past, but with the current renovations underway, there are more things missing than working. Would definitely pay the extra price to stay someplace else, but the room was clean, so that was the only reason for 1 star.
MoreWhen people are travelling on vacation or for business, and they pay money to stay at a hotel, they don't expect to stay at a homeless shelter. Period. End of story. This site is to review hotel experiences.
MoreThis was probably a great big place to stay and hold receptions - in 1990. Three adult businessmen traveling stayed three nights and two days. We arrived at the address, saw the closed restaurant connected to the hotel, saw a couple of currently pregnant baby mamma's smoking outside with their young children in strollers, some scrawny looking guys dressed in wife-beater shirts/low hanging shorts/sideways baseball caps and ragged-out cars/SUVs parked in the parking lot. We decided this is not where we wanted to stay. But we had to stay since it was after 5pm and the reservations would have charged us plus the local Hampton Inn was full (we called). We were put into the back wing which was under renovation -splitting up the hallways and seeming to set up a new office area by gutting a couple 1st floor rooms and starting on new walls in some hallways. We were later told that this portion was being split off from the current check in, main rooms, reception wing to be an different branded hotel entirely! Don't have a clue how that is going to work out with the two wings physically connected. We later figured out that we were probably the only three rooms occupied in the section undergoing renovation. Due to the above, we had to meander around halls and elevators to get to the hallways in the wing our rooms were in. Two of three rooms were ok. Third person had to change rooms upon returning after the first day because water was shut off to his room and never turned back on. All reported that rooms were clean, that a/c units worked ok and WiFi worked good enough. Rooms seemed to be cleaned ok daily, had bed made up, and had enough towels replaced. Renovations made the rooms noisy when they were working on the pipes or other rooms on the floor (see below). In the wing we were in, during day into early evening, construction workers were literally removing the outside walls of rooms and putting entirely new walls with new windows and ac units. You would walk by a room with guys working in it and see no outside wall -this was on the 3rd floor! Management or the construction company didn't even move the furniture out of those rooms, just letting the plaster and debris fall where ever. However someone would vacuum up the hallway at the end of their day which was 7 to 8pm when we stayed. Due to all of the other rooms opened up for construction plus the sketchy parking lot folks, each day we packed our clothing travel bags and left them in the rental car while we were at our job location. Overall the staff at the desk seemed nice though not exactly swift. When asked they mentioned that some of the people staying at the hotel were placed by social services after a fire burned down their apartments. Maybe or maybe not. We noticed that some of the folks had sheets hanging just inside their rooms in order to limit view into the rooms when the doors were opened which would indicate long term stay. Lobby seemed very nicely decorated in a Euro style for the 1990s and very clean except for renovation wall being put up across the main hall area to the left of the front entrance. There was a bar/service area in the main lobby but this was completely darkened and never open. There was a former gift shop/office that was closed up. No business center available, work out room closed for renovation, pool closed for renovation, atrium reception area closed for renovation. Breakfast- none at hotel but the Cracker Barrel restaurant down the street seemed never to be busy. Dinner- no hotel restaurant and connected restaurant was closed. The Holyoke Mall is close by with several restaurants or you can go to Cracker Barrel at night (again not very busy). At the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame (in Springfield) tourist information center, we found an old advertisement for the hotel that said it was a Holiday Inn during its heyday. Places to visit: Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame; Springfield Armory Museum, other historical places since you probably would not want to hang around the hotel much if at all. I know we did not. Not exactly worth the $82/night we were charged but we were only charged $82/night - in Massachusetts.
MoreI unfortunately had to stay in this place on business. My company had booked the room and truthfully, I don't think they are aware of what it has become. Tons of women with children roaming around. It's definitely a shelter. The first room I checked into smelled like urine and there was no running water. Across the hall they were doing construction so half of the building had no windows or doors (across the hall). After realizing I had no running water, I requested to be moved to another room. Although this one was better, I definitely didn't want to walk around this place at night. The second room was clean and didn't smell like urine but overall this place was still creepy. I am a female and was staying there alone. I did not feel safe. Locked every lock on the door before going to sleep. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. You have definitely been warned.
