Quietly tucked among the gorgeous historic houses in Worcester, it can be easy to miss the Bancroft Tower, but this place is definitely worth a visit. Erected at the start of the 20th Century in memory of American historian and statesman, George Bancroft, this 56-foot (17-meter) natural stone and granite tower is designed to look like a miniature feudal castle. Vandalism has resulted in the actual access to the tower being restricted but the grounds surrounding it are well-maintained making it a perfect place to have a picnic or just take in the quiet, beautiful atmosphere. The Bancroft Tower was included in the National Register of Historical Places in 1980.

tripadvisorUnique historical construction. We were not able to go up inside the tower but we enjoyed walking around the grounds on the sunny afternoon we stopped by. What I thought was a cat curled up in the old fireplace was a raccoon.
MoreJosh Vollmar led a historic walking tour from downtown Groton. He was very knowledgeable on the history and made it interesting. Highly recommend taking his tour. Beautiful view of Groton from Gibbit’s Hill.
MoreThat's ridiculous !!!went there for my bday and we couldn't go up inside it!! Dont waste your time people. Go to greenfield poet seat tower in greenfield et kd mass ... you can climb o to top any time ..gorgeous view of Mt and valleys this was a huge disapointment
MoreNice little spot to check out .... a small piece of history. Visited during the winter when there was snow on the ground. Made for lovely photos.... very accessible as the parking lot is directly in front of the Tower. Had no idea George Bancroft founded the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD..... have been there twice and immensely enjoyed my visits. As mentioned in previous reviews.... just be aware of 'kids' hanging out in parking lot smoking.
MoreWas a fun visit; views were great. You do need to walk pretty steep hill to get up to it. Neat little piece of history. You can walk through the stone sections but it’s open ruins. The architecture is worth the hike.
