There’s one small room with some artifacts (including a jar or tea from the Boston Tea Party). Otherwise, you need to be a researcher to go any further.

Have recently discovered this place! I love it. Wonderful events and speakers. Have been very surprisingly impressed. Wish I’d known earlier. Glad I found it!

American Antiquarian Society offers history's memorabilia unlike what you’d find in a traditional museum. Although they offer items from many periods, letters from the time the American revolution were amazing. Be prepared to give 2-3 hours to immerse yourself in history's hidden treasures.

The web site says, ...some materials will be inaccessible for brief periods of time. Nonsense. Complete and utter nonsense. You can get to the reception desk and you can access a tiny exhibit room and you can go upstairs to look at a printing press. However, there are no tours and nothing of substance is visible. If you're a researcher who can get access, fine, but if you're a member of the interested public, a visit is pointless unless you want to use the restrooms. Until Spring 2019. I hope to go back someday, at which point I look forward to giving the AAS an excellent rating, but for now, due to misleading web site information and extremely limited access to the building, poor is the best I can offer.

The depth and breadth of the AAS is far-reaching. Their edifice is a castle in white marble As a 75 year old enthusiast of American History, I am never disappointed with the service received. The folks are highly educated and help me on every visit!
