Hidden gem in Boston. Museum consists of African Meeting House and oldest African school in the country. The visit was truly mind-opening to see the contributions of African Americans to the vibrant religious, educational and social life of Boston/New England. I would highly recommend the guide led tour (included in the small admission price) as the guide brought out the richness of the exhibits.

Our family plans a family reunion every two years in various parts of the country. We travel and plan for the event well in advance to assure success for our saved resources. When we requested a tour, we paid individually and collected the funds to submit as a group. The tour guide arrived late (we waited near two hours) but yet they ended the tour as if it started on time. Basically we did NOT get a full tour although we paid for it. The owner apparently assured my cousin that we would get a refund, but he reneged on that promise. This is not a trustworthy company!! Find another company that will provide the service that is advertised or correct it if they cannot. We can’t get the time or money back from our whole group plans to enjoy and learn more about our heritage and history. Black people we can do better!!

Very interesting tour and exhibits. Although somewhat small, the buildings and the guided tour provide a very interesting view of Boston history. Would recommend to all!

Boston has a rich history of African-American achievement and was a key center of abolitionist thought and action. Yet, the Boston African American National Historic Site does not do justice to this history. While there is a trail through Boston that goes past historic homes, the focus of the site is the Museum of African-American History and the African Meeting House. The museum itself has two floors that contain a special exhibit. When we were there it was a photography and public art exhibit on Frederick Douglass. While the exhibit was interesting, it made clear that the museum itself does not maintain a consistent presence focused on the Boston African-American community.The African Meeting House is interesting, but the House is only accessible on the hour for a ranger tour. If I had better understood the site, then we would have spent our time in Boston focused on other things.

Really enjoyed my experience here. Staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. I would definitely go again!
