Woken up at 2am on a Saturday night due to extremely loud pounding beat. There’s seems to be a club in part of the hotel. It’s so loud that I can hear it on the 8th floor. However, returning to my room at 8pm on Sunday all I can hear is the thumping of the club. One night is bearable, two night is not and is unacceptable.

I was in Boston a few weeks ago on business and stayed over the weekend and booked into the Marriott Courtyard, Downtown. I had contacted the hotel in advance as I am a Bonvoy member and requested a room where i could see some of the city if possible however i only had the view of a brick walled building. The hotel is centrally located in the theatre area and a 5 minute walk to Boston common. Reception areas, hallways, bar area are dated/dark and very unlike the many other Marriott Courtyards I had previously stayed in. I did not eat in the hotel however I visited the bar area which was always busy and had a good atmosphere however unfortunately the bar closes at 10.00pm which is very strange in such a vibrant city and busy hotel - maybe an opportunity Marriott to provide guests with longer opening hours in the evening. Staff were all very friendly and informative during my stay. I was in room 1114 which was clean, comfortable and very compact. I was unable to open the wardrobe while i had my suitcase open - yes the space is very compact. Very busy hotel, hallways at times had litter and waste/takeaway cartons left outside doors so maybe just needs a little additional attention. Location is great, hotel is ok, rooms compact but spotless and the overall furnishings are just a little dated.

Unfortunately, this stay was disappointing from the very beginning. I originally booked the Elk Suite which was a one-bedroom king suite on the top floor. Two hours before check-in, I received an email letting me know that the room I specifically booked was suddenly no longer available and that I had been moved to a standard king room instead. Not exactly a great start. When we arrived, the room smelled strongly of cigarettes. Considering I was traveling with my infant, I obviously wasn’t comfortable staying in a room that smelled like smoke. I messaged through the app and was told to come down to the front desk so they could help find another room. So I packed everything back up, lugged my luggage AND my baby downstairs, only to be told the sole alternative was a room with two double beds that the employee described as “half the size.” That information probably could have been shared through the app before having a mother traveling with an infant haul everything back downstairs. The gentleman working at the front desk was also not particularly friendly or accommodating throughout any of this.Unfortunately, the cleanliness was also concerning. There was a USED RAZOR in the shower. It absolutely did not belong to us. Nothing says “newly renovated luxury” quite like discovering the previous guest’s personal hygiene products ***hair included**** waiting for you in the shower. At that point, I really didn’t want to think too hard about what else may not have been cleaned. Ironically, the $75 valet (while extremely overpriced) was probably the best part of the experience. The valet staff/service was good, but unfortunately that was one of the very few positives. For the price this hotel charges, I expected significantly better accommodations, cleanliness, and service.

It was centrally located for all that we had on our agenda. The room had a musty smell but we weren’t in it long enough to let it bother us. They are still in the middle of renovations, so we lost tv service for a few hours but again, not in the room long enough to care. Told we would have a great view but our room did not have a view of anything worth looking at. Overall staff was great!

Wonderful staff throughout the hotel. Helpful, friendly, knowledgeable - and best of all - fun.The place has recently been updated so it was new and fresh. The carpets were surprisingly soft. Easy to walk on.Wonderful breakfasts with exceptionally large and tasty omelets made to order.
