Since 1986, Cambridge's biggest second-hand store has helped thrifty souls outfit themselves for proms, job interviews, costume parties and everyday life. Suits, jeans, and shoes comprise the front section of the large store; the back room boasts Austin Powers-esque 60s and 70s vintage threads. If you do not mind picking through piles of rejects, try the chaotic Dollar-A-Pound store downstairs, which also sells books and assorted oddities.

tripadvisorThis is a great place to go if you're into thrifting. It's actually two stores in one: Boston Costume & The Garment District. The first floor is costuming and a literal pile of clothes on a floor that you can pay for by weight. The second floor is a more traditional thrift store. I particularly liked how a lot of the areas were arranged by decade. I bought two 90s dresses, each of my teens also found pieces they loved, and we all got something out of the buy by weight pile as well. This shop is well-worth a visit.
MoreIf you have a couple hours to spend sifting through everything you’re going to find some good deals. You definitely need to look this over and will have to wash the items obviously. There is not a fitting room for the first floor finds but they may let you use the bathroom for a quick try in.
MoreI cannot say I have ever been in a place like this! What a fun experience and found a couple of cool treasures. Definitely make sure you have time to browse...
MoreWhat an amazing find! So many customes to look at and to rent. Such a fun place to explore! There was a vintage clothing area that had many choices. Clothing was well organized and well priced.
MoreThe upside is that you can find amazing deals on some amazing clothes - both menswear and women's. The downside is that you do have to *find* them - there is a lot of dross hiding those golden nuggets. Our family of four headed out to the Garment District on a recent trip to Boston in search of some fun vintage clothing at good prices. What we hadn't quite anticipated was that it would be a three hour tour (...a three hour tour..) through rack after rack of miscellaneous items. The men died out in about an hour and a half but the women pressed on. But I can't really complain. We bought a ton of stuff at *very* reasonable prices and walked away very happy. I strongly recommend shopping here.
