tripadvisorReally enjoyed our visit here. Great place to see a movie, good small selection of films, nice people. The building is old and that's part of this theater's charm, but it could also use some updates. Nevertheless a fun place!
MoreVery cozy & boasts some of the most affordable tickets in the city! Plus they have a lot of great deals for snacks. I love going here to see a movie because it has a short of old Hollywood local feel to it!
MoreThe Somerville theatre is a refreshing, fun throwback to what movie theaters were before the chain cookie cutter theaters. To experince any movie ( even if you have already seen it! ) in the main theater is to see a venue that was made for a true cinematic experience. The main theater also has an original 70mm projector for old prints and new ( The hateful 8 was unreal ) and not the converted projectors that most theaters use ( not as sharp ). Add to this dozens of live performances, special movie festivals and classic movie showings and a well stocked beer and wine bar - you are in movie heaven. If you like the movies you owe it to yourself to check it out!
MoreGreat location, fun atmosphere, and good selection of shows. We recently moved to the area and were dying of the heat in our house so thought we should find a fun place with AC. We were pleasantly surprised and will definitely come back! I may actually start seeing movies again
MoreWe went to see a five-person company perform A Midsummer's Night's Dream in the basement theater. Just one actor was drunk, but that gives you a flavor of the silly way they performed one of the bard's classic comedies. The players often broke the fourth wall and ad-libbed in modern dialog. The hour-long show just hit the highlights with a very funny Puck lording over the other actors. There's a bar that was open well past performance start time, which meant it began a half-hour late. Mostly young folk, casually dressed. Must be 21, but no IDs were checked. There's some audience participation. The theater's air conditioning made for a chilly night. Parking is at a premium in Davis Square so leave time to find a place to put the car or travel by subway to Davis Square.
