Originally called the Pan Am building, this landmark skyscraper has dominated the New York skyline since it was built in 1963. Designed in the Brutalist style of architecture, by the well-known Emery Roth and Sons with consultants Pietro Belluschi and Walter Gropius, the building has an unmistakable style and is still an architectural behemoth in Mid-town New York. Since 9/11 tours of the building have been stopped, but it's still possible to take a look around the arcades on the ground floor. The Vanderbilt Avenue lobby houses the Richard Lippold sculpture, Flight, dedicated to Pan American World Airways. It houses some of the most expensive office space available for rent in Mid-town, and is currently managed by Tishman Speyer properties.

tripadvisorThis is an iconic skyscraper that started life as the PanAm Building. Corporations change and real estate changes hands and it now has another name. But it still straddles Park Avenue at Grand Central Station and looks quite good, now a classic and recognizable.
MoreBuilt in 1962 in the International Style (emphasizing functional and utilitarian designs) and formerly known as the PanAm Building, this skyscraper was advertised as the world's largest commercial office space by square footage at its opening. The building has been criticized over the years I suppose because of its lack of character. However, I find the mid-century modern architecture intriguing especially with the contrast to the adjacent Grand Central Station with its Beaux-Arts architecture and makes for a great photo.
MoreIt's a landmark in my eyes because I always see the old Pan Am building in the middle of Park Avenue near Grand Central. There is a helipad on the top. It is classic mid-century design.
MoreThe Met Life building sits across the middle of park avenue. Located very close to grand central terminal. The building itself is not so pretty - but iconic.
MoreThe MetLife. Holding in New York is close to Grand central Station. It’s enormous and a great place to visit. Famous building.
