Otherwise, a bit of a disappointment. This building was built to be and was the city hall. City hall took over the original library which is across the street. The bones of the building are impressive, but the place needs a makeover.

Due to lack of time, I was unable to visit the New Bedford Public Library, I made sure that I saw the outside. The Statue of the “The Dead Whale or Stove Boat” is an iconic representation of New Bedford. It was created in 1913 and the term is from a whaler’s song referred to in “Moby Dick” meaning either the whale dies or the boat is crushed. Ahab would have loved it.

Occasional lectures, such as one on his book Birdtalk by Alan Powers a few years ago. Hope he'll do one on his Candelaio translation of G Bruno's hilarious comedy (1582), performed at the Bridewell Theatre, London April 2014. Couple of scenes on Youtube: Candelaio Final Edit.
