tripadvisorThis reflects the collapse of the American Mall. The only level that was open was the ground floor and then only a few stores. JC Penney and Macy's were the only stores worth going to as they were more or less the only ones there and open.Don't bother going here and save your time for the Wrentham Outlet Mall
MoreThe once-vibrant Emerald Square Mall has fallen into a state of disrepair and neglect. What was once a bustling shopping destination is now a virtual ghost town, with only a handful of major retailers, such as Macy's and Penney's, remaining. The once-thriving food court has been largely shut down, and many of the mall's escalators are broken and non-functional. The directory signs are outdated and missing information, further contributing to the mall's sense of abandonment. It appears that Emerald Square Mall is on the verge of failure and may eventually be forced to close its doors for good, a sad fate for a once-vibrant community hub.
MoreIt is obvious that this mall is on its way out. While it has a nice, modern, open and airy feel to it, about 70-80% of the stores are closed. While I was there visiting, Sears was having their final days sale and once that anchor store is gone, this mall is going to feel very dead. I hope that the owners find a way to bring this mall back from the verge of death with something to draw in people, may it be a Dave & Busters, a movie theater, anything to keep the place going. There are a couple of stores that are cool in here (Newbury Comics, The Toy Vault, FYE... seriously... I do not recall the last time I saw an FYE in a mall), but other than that, it is a bit depressing to walk through all 3 levels, see so many closed stores and such a small food court.
MoreThis mall is a sad spectacle of what is appearing to happen to all Simon Malls across the state and country, the loss of retail brick and mortar stores. The mall itself used to be a high traffic shopping mecca of the south shore, prior to Providence Place being built, this was the mall to shop, now sitting on barren Route 1. Sears now gone, and soon JCPenney, leaving a shell of its former glory, a three floor dumpy wasteland of empty space, Macy's barely hanging on here and most of 3rd floor left for small businesses and schools and dentists? The place is horrible and needs to just own up to its failure as a business and shut down and make way for maybe an open air shopping center like the one that opened across the street.
MoreLike all malls this one fate will be the same as the Swansea and Galleria mall. I think the obvious buy it on line has killed off the business starting with the weakest until the anchor stores pull out and the entire mall just collapses on itself. Turn back 100 years ago and all the world had was the Sears Catalog, 100 years later no more Sears and everything is online.. What a world.
