Swan Point was established in 1846 as one of the first garden cemeteries of its kind in the United States. The cemetery allows visitors in to the mausoleum and Columbarium (a place for funerary urns) and it has interred many important locals. Some of the deceased include Congressional Medal of Honor recipients, Civil War Generals, state governors and the famous horror author H.P. Lovecraft. The massive estate combines historical architecture and interesting sculpture among the flora and fauna near the Seekonk River. It truly is a place of tranquil beauty.

tripadvisorLovely cemetery - huge, with some amazing stones. It’s not hard to find Lovecraft’s if this is the purpose of your trip - Find a Grave website shows you exactly where, but locals are happy to direct you. Worth the trip!
MoreCame to pay our respects to Lovecraft. Not the easiest grave to find but we had help from a lovely lady who asked if we were looking for it. The grave itself is unassuming, but I was touched by the mementos left by others. A poignant stop if you are a lover of literature or horror in particular.
MoreMy father is buried here this cemetary is well kept and beautiful!!!....very peaceful taking a stroll around...im happy my father is buried here... 5 stars
MoreIf you have to die, this would be a great place to spend eternity. I don’t think I have ever seen a more beautifully landscaped cemetery. The only thing that would be nice is if you go on a weekend and you’re trying to find a particular resting place it’s a little difficult, even though there is a website that helps you. The flowers were gorgeous. You could see that many people were enjoying walking and biking through. It definitely was a serene oasis.
MoreMost beautiful cemetery I’ve visited. Definitely use the walking tour map. So much history and info. It’s 60 acres with 40,000+ interments. Definitely worth a visit
