tripadvisorI'm a big fan of Jimmy Carr! Drove 2hrs. to see him. Sat in the upper balcony. People coming in couldn't find their seats, they aren't well marked and there were no ushers! I've seen better sound systems at weddings from a karioki DJ !!! No speakers in the balcony section!!! Didn't hear a word he said!!! Terrible venue!!! Save your money!!!
MoreWe had great seats for Sarah Jarosz and she was fantastic!! The sound was well mixed, but TOO LOUD!!! Esp. for the last 20 minutes or so when they definitely cranked the volume. Our watches were going off with warnings and we checked the decibel level which was 90 - 110!!! Why cause hearing loss in your patrons??? They need their hearing to appreciate the music!! Please, please, let us appreciate these great musicians! It doesn't need to be so loud!
MoreWe've gone to the State Theater and have never had a good experience. Some issues: (1) The sound is terrible; you can't understand what people on stage are saying/singing (I've also heard this, unsolicited, from a number of people). (2) We got there early and found some great seats... and then a crowd of people stood right in front of us; the only way I could see the performer was to walk out to the lobby and watch through the windows there. I've had two back operations and can't stand for long. (3) The concert was advertised for 8pm; the performer we came to see came out at 9:30pm. There was a 45 minute opening act, not very good, and then a 45 gap. I assume they wanted us to buy a bunch of booze during that time? (4) It was 9 degrees outside and they delayed opening the doors for 30 minutes; that's a long time to stand outside in the freezing cold.
MoreI hadn’t seen a show here in about 19 years. I went to see Ben Folds. I use to come here aaa lot in late 1990s and early 2000’s. Have seen some greats shows here back in the day. The show itself was great. No complaints at this smaller more intimate venue. This theater was revived and rehabilitated about 30 years ago after a long stint as a porno theater in the 1980s. Used to be a real movie theater back in the day pre-1970s.I think there might’ve been another re-habilitation about 15 years ago? Nevertheless, the public areas outside of the theater itself were dark and tired, showing some that they needed to do some updating. The men’s restrooms were completely disgusting, and that’s an understatement. I was kind of shocked. In the mid to late 90s and early 2000s this was a really nice place after the early 90s renovations. Also, I didn’t like that there was no reentry, so if you were a smoker you couldn’t go outside to smoke and come back in. No Wi-Fi available in the building and I had no cell signal. After I got in, I went to look at my mobile tickets to see where I was seated exactly and I couldn’t access it with no cell signal in building and no Wi-Fi. Ticket booth had to look my reservation up.As mentioned, the actual performance area itself was great, but the public areas in the corridor, ands in bathroom are in severe need of updating and modernization. I think the bathroomtiling was the original hundred year old floor tiling.? But it wasn’t just that. The bathrooms reminded me of a nasty truckstop bathroom. They were really that gross! Beers were a fair price at about eight dollars a can. Marked up, but a lot less than other venues I’ve gone to. Not sure I’d go back for three hours if I can’t go outside and smoke and come back in. The last couple years they’ve had some great lineups, though. Big-name acts. Just kind oof disappointed in the overall ambience of the theater. Twenty five years ago this was a really nice place.
MoreAmazing concert! Great sound!! Cool, old theater!! Seats were very, very tight and must have been challenging for larger humans!
