Village Underground in New York is probably one of the best places to catch the foremost names of the city's live music scene. The bands that play here usually play much larger venues, but the smaller space here simply intensifies the effect of the great music. Well-known celebrities like Mariah Carey and Stevie Wonder have been known to drop in here regularly and Bob Dylan used to play here back in the sixties. Village Underground also hosts open-mic nights and comedy performances at its sub-venue, the Comedy Cellar. Drop in for a memorable musical night.

tripadvisorWhen I go to a comedy club, it’s because I want to laugh - I draw the line at comedians who are on stage and out right say- too bad the bullet missed, Trump should die, references to Florida and how Mickey and goofy should bend Ron over and show him how it’s done … it was a disgrace and at some points antagonizing- leave that type of politics at home. Or Joke about both sides but don’t call for death and abuse. You should all be ashamed of yourselves. I will never go back and I will be sure to tell all friends and family. Social media too
MoreIf I could give it a zero I would have. A reservation means nothing and one of the staff is so increadibly rude I while I love comedy and go often to see shows I would not go here again because of my experience tonight. One my reservation I was told to come at a certain time and I came at least 15 minutes before that time. People jumped in front of me -- joining people they knew in front of me but coming well after me-- and then when I got to the door there was no more room. The staff member at the door -- who was in charge told me it was my falult for not coming on time after I told her exactly what I did and what happened and she just kept insisting that I was wrong. All she had to have done was apoligize and take some responsibility and I would have understood.-- but telling me I was in the wrong really pisses me off. I will discourage others from going there and they won't get my business.
MoreSuch a fun night we went back again a couple weeks later, and I’m going to bring my sister when she visits me from out of town next month.
MoreThe Comedy Cellar - Village Underground location was a fantastic part of our visit to NYC. You will laugh until it hurts. Be sure to make a reservation online since they rarely have room for walk-ins. Be aware that as a couple you may end up seated at the same table as another couple but once the show starts you'll be too focused on the show to care. There is a 2 item minimum per person but your purchases don't have to be alcohol. You will have to put away your phone and smart devices in an envelope to avoid recording but you always have them with you.
MoreThis far exceeded our expectations! We were able to see 7 different comedians and while some fell flat for the most part we really enjoyed this show! We laughed through most of the show and the service was great as well. They had a 2 drink/food per person minimum, but we found that easy to meet. The space was small and had a very intimate feel. You never know who you will see here - many top comedians have been known to frequent the Village Underground/Comedy Cellar and we just so happened to see Ray Romano! Great overall experience and would HIGHLY recommend.
