This 'pasticceria' or bakery is located in the West Village and if you are looking for Zeppole, Pignoli, Cannoli or any other Italian sweet, you have come to the right place. Since 1974, Rocco Generoso has served traditional recipes and pastries that he inherited from the previous owner of the storefront at 243 Bleecker Street. The list of treats goes on-and-on, from Panettone and Rainbow cakes to Biscotti and Linzer Tarts, it's nearly impossible to leave without a dozen of something.

Reviews
tripadvisorI am so sad to have to give this formerly wonderful bakery a terrible review, but since the owners moved to Florida it is going downhill fast. I have been ordering cakes and coming here since the 70's but sadly I ordered a cake about 2 weeks ago, I was picking it up a week later. I ordered an Italian rum cake (WITHOUT THE RUM) which I specifie4d several times now I have been eating this kind of cake since I was a child and have ordered it this way many times over the years from Rocco's...when I saw the cake I said this is not right, there are nuts on the side of the cake, she took the cake back to the baker downstairs and said I am sorry we are out of all nuts except for walnuts...they sprinkled the sides with I guess walnut crumbs I guess and needless to say I was not happy, they also had no shopping bags, they were ordered but hadn't arrived yet and the sfogliatelle were baking, it would be a 20-30 minute wait. I said forget it. The cake was totally smashed when we opened it for the party at the restaurant the next day since I had to carry it on a crowded train with no shopping bag and the cake (HAD RUM), needless to say I did not eat any as one taste was enough as I hate rum and I also had people from AA in the group so they could not eat the cake either. I ended up giving it to the restaurant staff to eat. I paid 57.00 for this cake that several people(including me) could not eat. Sadly I don't know if I will continue with Rocco's I may just go to Ferrara's where I have also had luck with getting pastries and my Italian rum cake without rum. My advise to the owner is this, if you were going to move to Florida than you should have just sold the shop or closed it and at least it would have gone out in a blaze of glory rather than this, just so sad.
MoreGreat place for a coffee and pastry stop: seat inside or in the outdoor area at the back.Try the cannoli, the chocolate eclairs, the pasta croce and….Everything is so delicious! The espresso is also great.
MoreA half circle would be more appropriate…with the cafe half full, I waited 7 minutes to be seated, sat for 15 minutes at a dirty table before apparently becoming visible; received a pastry five minutes ago, and still await the coffee. This place is a joke.
MoreCould not have found a more perfect spot to warm up last Sunday during out tour of Greenwich Village. Large variety of coffee, tea and delicious pastries. Take it to go or relax in the their atrium room (social distance set-up). Their pistachio cannoli was THE BEST!! Great customer service! Enjoy!!
MoreOld world Italian bakery in the heart of SoHo. Fond memories of sharing cannoli here after church with my father at Our Lady of Pompei next door. Delicious pastries, cookies, and cake.
