Marie's Crisis Cafe has been in existence since the 1850s. It was rechristened Marie's Crisis after the "Crisis Papers" by Thomas Paine. Nowadays, every night the public joins the regulars or performers that sing show-tunes with the piano and creating a nostalgic atmosphere. Beer and cocktails are served here, but watch out for the beautiful mirror work that depicts the scenes of the French and American Revolutions placed on the wall near the bar, whose origins remain unknown to this day.

tripadvisorWalked in here in full bridal gear (two women) looking for a drink after eloping in Central Park that afternoon. Had an absolute ball. Was greeted with such a warm welcome and congratulations. Drew, the piano player, was fabulous and took requests. Can’t tell you about the drinks prices because the crowd were so kind and people just kept buying us drinks all night. So many obscure Broadway songs and lots of old faves. People will tell you what they are so you can look up the lyrics on your phone and join in. Such a gorgeous, welcoming experience. I can highly recommend spending your wedding reception singing along to Rocky Horror tunes with a bunch of strangers. Take cash for the bar and to tip as they absolutely deserve it.
MoreShow tunes. Live piano. Singing encouraged. Drinks. Cosy venue. Opportunity to meet new folk. What’s not to love. Embrace Marie’s Crisis Cafe and it’ll embrace you back.
MoreFriends had recommended and bar and after 3 visits to NY finally made it and so glad we did. Was quite busy and as it’s small you might have to stand. Luckily a couple left so we got a seat. About 6 people gathered round a piano singing show tunes and they were so good. Cheapest drinks we had over the whole weekend in Manhattan so definitely worth a visit.
MoreRudest place I’ve ever been in NYC. Had so much fun in the city and visited many places. This place was horrible. Bartender needs to get a different job. He’s a miserable human.
MoreBeen here a few times when in NYC and it can be a bit hit and miss as sometimes feels a bit cliquey with the musical snobs. We came in about 8:30 which is early and there was about 15 people in so we were not hopeful. But the songs came thick and fast and the crowd grew. By the time we left at about 10:30 it was heaving. Be prepared to put some money in the pot and don't be shy to ask for requests when you do. Got chatting to a nice group of people who also share the love of Broadway. Remember that filming and photos on your mobile are frowned upon. Tip the bar man and sing!
