More than just a gym, The West Side YMCA is a thriving community center that offers excellent and diverse fitness facilities. Besides all the basic cardiovascular and free weight equipment available, there are two swimming pools, basketball and volleyball courts, spinning and rowing gyms, and separate stretching rooms. The class schedule is as diverse as any in the city, offering over 100 choices from standard aerobics and step, to chi gong, funk and karate.

Reviews
tripadvisorThe bathrooms were poorly maintained, and the water temperature was either freezing cold or boiling hot with no middle ground. The worst issue was that the water was shut off for an entire night, leaving the toilets unable to be flushed. The smell throughout the place was unpleasant, the beds were extremely uncomfortable, and the noise from the corridors made it difficult to rest.Yes, the accommodation may be affordable, but the lack of comfort, sleep, and basic standards makes it simply not worth it.
Morei checked prices recently. price almost tripled. won't stay again. honestly, the YMCA price point is almost the same as what the hotels charge. next time Airbnb or hotel. sad
MoreThe price is great and the location is great but I had roaches in my room and they wouldn’t let me switch rooms. I had to sleep with them and when I talked to the manager he didn’t want to give me a refund and brushed it off like no big deal. So now I have to go home and leave all my cloths outside of the house because I don’t want to bring roaches back home. The room also is disgusting . There is an inch of brown/black film along the perimeter of the air conditioner, finger prints of past tortured guests line the walls. The room looks and feels like a jail cell.
MoreSeems to have steadily declined over our handful of stays in last ten years or so. Now feels like a detention center basically. The shades which seemed to be broken covered our view of outside and could not be adjusted. As there was no curtain one should not expect to sleep past sunrise. Unlike in the past the window was sealed closed so we could not let fresh air in at all. They have recently installed ugly-looking grey-brown flooring, the kind of synthetic wood material you will see in motels that have done minimum-budget renovations, see photo. This Y was formerly pleasant overall despite barebones style, it is no longer so. On the other hand the guests are mainly white Europeans with more or less clean appearance, which is better than the clientele you are likely to encounter at other US hotels in this price range. Check-in staff was efficient.
MoreIt might be inexpensive by NYC standards, but not worth it. Cell-like rooms, cot like beds with old mattresses and a plastic pillow. The administration has no shame; keep the place generally filthy and uncomfortable and barely serviceable but keep raising the rates on unsuspecting foreigners and tourists who think they are getting a bargain. No common areas for guests, nor a place to keep food, eat or just hang out and socialize and meet other guests. Zero ambiance. Uncaring staff. Supposed to be a non-profit but whoever runs it are slumlords. Bring your own pillow and bedding
