MoreI used to be a docent - Stockader during the Bicentennial. I was in high school. At the time, the house held not only from the times of being a State Capital but also of the families that resided in the house. We had to know the history and be dressed in Dutch/colonial outfits. When I visited it last year, I was appalled at what the State had done. Gone were the artifacts of the families that lived there. Gone were the true articles from the beginning to the last family. Only placards where put in it's place. what used to be open to the public was closed. How disappointing.Found out that most of the articles are in a warehouse somewhere in Albany. Left to decay and rot. This is a true shame!
MoreGreat tour. The guide was informative and made the tour enjoyable. Museum was great. We enjoyed our stop here. Grounds well kept.
MoreThe Senate House is a must when visiting Kingston, NY. It gives you the history of the CIty of Kingston, how the area played a role in the Revolutionary War, Kingston's role as a trading post and an early capital of New York State. It also talks of the evolution of the area as a farming community and its growth as a prominent city. The Senate House itself is finally open after almost a four year renovation. You got to see how the period rooms were furnished and how the early Dutch lived. It is not one of the fancier houses but gives a realistic view of the day to day lives of the people that lived here. The museum is a must when you are visiting Kingston and want a view of life in the early Dutch settlement before the war.
MoreWhile the Senate House was closed for touring during Kingston NY's Snowflake Festival, it was decorated for the holidays with lights all over the trees and Santa there to greet everyone. It was picturesque and a was a magical night for everyone who planned it.
