tripadvisorI visited here and enjoyed it. I was staying in New Paltz and drove up to visit it since I am q Huguenot descendant. A nice lady named Betty was arriving at the same time and escorted me in to the chuch and directed me to the sanctuary, which is beautiful indeed. They were preparing a vegan meal for the community while I was there and it smelled great. I was invited to participate but had other plans. It was a nice visit and I am glad I came. I hope they continue to exist another 300 years.
MoreI was in the Stockade District for the annual Snowflake Festival and attended the concerts the church with the Strawberry Fiddlers. I could not believe how beautiful the church looks with all the beautiful garland and lights. It was so picturesque and traditional. The concerts were really entering and a lot of fun.It was just nice to sit in the warm church, admire the decorations and enjoy the concert. It was a very pleasant evening.
MoreI went for a Fiddlers Concert during the Kingston Snowflake Festival and it was a very nice concert. The groups did a nice job though it could have been a bit more Christmasy in their song selection. The church was beautifully decorated for the holidays with white lights all over the trees and inside and wreaths and holy everywhere. The Church had a very Christmassy look to it. The outside lights gave it that extra added touch to make it look picturesque.
MoreNot only is this church old and historic but it also is still an active, welcoming congregation with a full slate of programming. I tried to stop in on a weekday, but it closes at 4 pm. I thought that I had missed my chance to see inside, but on Saturday I was walking past and saw that the doors were open so I went inside. My husband’s Dutch family settled in the Kingston area in the 1600s and they had connections to this church and I have connections to this church’s denomination. I was lucky enough to talk with Pastor Rob, who was very generous with his time, about the history of the area and the state of the Reformed Church in America. They sell t-shirts and postcards in the back so ask if you want one.
MoreWe didn’t plan to stop here but decided to on our way out of town. Glad we did. Beautiful old church. Great ancient gravestones. Spoke to a local about the recent unearthing and Forensic / archaeology study.
