The Charles R. Wood Theater history dates to late 1995 when a group of private business leaders in Glens Falls, NY convened with a common goal to strengthen the downtown commercial district of Glens Falls, NY. Glens Falls, a typical small downtown, experienced failed urban renewal in the 1960s, the flight of traditional retail in the 1970s and 80s, and a significant economic downturn in upstate New York in the 1990s. This group of business leaders formed a non-profit economic development corporation called Partners For Progress Development. Later that year the Woolworth Corporation closed its Glens Falls location and Partners For Progress identified the property, the largest and most modern on the main block of downtown, as a key to the downtown's future and purchased it.

tripadvisorI used to go to the Wood Theatre over the years - as I do like to support theatre as much as possible...but unfortunately...when they designed the seating - the comfort of their patrons was not on their mind. I am 5'4 - and I found the leg room was extremely cramped. That is one major reason I stopped attending. The other reason is that the content of the play - whether it is profanity (like really - do we have to hear that ?) or questionable theme may not something I necessarily want to see... so I stopped planning to attend. Do advise your patrons what they may experience. There are so many excellent plays from years ago...would wish the theatres would perform them.
MoreI'm really fond of local theatres, as the performances are oftentimes very genuine and very well-made. We came to this theatre to see Buyer and Cellar while we were staying in Lake George, and was very impressed with the quality of both the the show and the theatre itself. The seats are comfortable and arranged in such a way that each one provides a good view of the stage, and the acoustics were very good. Staff were friendly. The theatre provides a variety of entertainment options, including traditional theatre shows, comedic performances, dance troupes, and lectures. It felt safe during these pandemic times.
More>Music, story line and sets were good. >Language was excessively and unnecessarily profane in our opinion. >Ads should have alerted prospective theater goers re: the subject matter of homosexuality as well as the explicit and profane language. We witnessed parents with 2 gradeschool boys leave hurriedly early in the performance. Others also left early on.
MoreWe went to see a play here at the end of July. The theater was very nice and the staff was all helpful. No problems with sight lines, we could see everything on stage. Well run organization.
MoreWe have been attending the Adirondack Theater Festival during the summer months for many years. The shows are almost always great and the venue is excellent.
