MoreIt is exciting to see that Buffalo is finally taking notice of its waterfront. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come.
Morekind of a ratty old city park, so close to the river that a net ABOVE home plate -- not behind it -- deters foul balls from reaching the river... an exemplar of benign neglect... parking is OK but the neighborhood can be a bit questionable... batted old playground on one side and a variety of ball diamonds wit games usually going on in the dust... around holiday, starting with memorial day, scene of a huge carnival in which the last buck is milked from the suckers until the fireworks finally go off... a great view of this from across the river on grand island
MoreRiverside Park is a 22 acre park in the Riverside section of Buffalo, New York. It was the last of the parks designed by the Olmstead Firm for Buffalo. It has many of the amenities of a city park: 2 pools, ice rink (indoor), Senior Citizen center, lighted football field, tennis courts, basketball court, baseball diamonds, and 2 picnic shelters. Unfortunately, there are no restrooms (except in the pool and ice rink buildings) and on must use a Johnny-on-the-spot. What is interesting is the addition of a rain garden which is under construction and almost complete. It is, to my understanding, based on an Olmstead design (I could be wrong on that). It even has a little stone bridge to walk on. The park has a view of the Niagara River but access to it is across Niagara Street and over a pedestrian bridge which crosses over the NYS Thruway.
