We visited the historic Smith Opera House to attend a concert – 60’s folk musicians. The venue is really quite something – carefully restored, great acoustics, a wide stage, and good seats everywhere. The outside is not much to look at, but the inside is beautiful, and it was lovely to walk around admiring the art and architecture. The performance itself was excellent, especially in the context of the Opera House.

This was our first time at the Smith Opera House. We went to a Gordon Lightfoot concert that we enjoyed. The theater is impressive in itself and the performance was good.

She is an awesome old dame - A true gem! The Smith Opera house is nestled in downtown Geneva amongst buildings that are of generations passed and on a bustling street. The interior of the Smith Old Opera Houses is ornate and painstakingly restored to its true grandeur. For this place to be 123 years old, it looks amazing and the people have taken great pride and love in restoring her. I was here to take in a Steve Earle concert – didn’t know what to expect from this venue (size, seats, acoustics, etc.). She didn’t disappoint! The interior was elegant, grand and perfect for the period and time frame she was built in. Spacious and comfy seats which all had an unobstructed view of the stage. It is an intimate place and even the balcony seats don’t seem far from the stage. The acoustics a very good – crisp and clear. It helped that Steve Earle put on a great show as well. There is a bar area in the basement for refreshments and libations. Even if you don’t want a beverage, check out the bar area in the basement – it’s a super cool place and offers another historic view of the beautiful building. Know that you’re not here just pay and take in an event, your ticket also includes money that goes back into refurbishing the Smith Opera House and keeping it an amazing venue, antique building and proud historic landmark of Geneva. I was astonish to find out that Bruce Springsteen played here in 1974 – before he became the “Boss”, he rocked upon this stage and filled the rafters with his music. From the time I stepped in to purchase my ticket for the show that evening, I was amazed by the friendliness of the people, the pride they exuded and love they had for the Smith Opera House. This place is a true landmark and an amazing place to see a concert. A great place to soak in the 123 years of history and see a place that has been restored to its true form. It sits a few blocks off Seneca Lake in Geneva, New York. There are plenty of restaurants speckled about the area surrounding the Smith Opera House to grab a bit to eat or drink before your venue. If you get the chance to take in a show here – do it. It is an amazing place and offers an opportunity to take in an intimate performance. While there for the event, take time to absorb your surroundings – the ornate decorations, there historic engineering that went into the building, its architecture and how well it has been restored. Enjoy & CHEERS!
