tripadvisorWonderful concert by the Rochester philharmonic, with selections from mozart, and brahms. Nicely balanced program, and top shelf performance by the RPO, as usual. Not a full house by any means, but a receptive and appreciative audience nonetheless. The RPO is such an asset to our community, we all need to support the philharmonic.
MoreThe Rochester Philharmonic Pops, with the great Jeff Tysyk conducting and celebrating his 30 year anniversary, we marvelous. All of the soloists were excellent, especially trumpeter Herb Smith. The orchestra shoed great respect for the music of Cuke Ellington and George Gershwin, giving the wonderful harmonies of Duke and melodies of Gershwin a beautiful strings' richness. Jeff is to congratuated for his choice of music and soloists, as well as masterful conducting. Plus, a beautiful setting.
MoreThe general public can not tour the Eastman Theater. The Theater is part of the campus. Prospective students and family may tour the Theater as part of a larger campus tour which has been scheduled.
MoreThe Philharmonic Orchestra played Beatles music on Friday 4/22/2022. The concert was excellent. The only negative was that the Univ. of Roch. had control over the Covid mandate requirements that patrons had to prove their identity (driver's license), prove that they were vaccinated (show their vax card) and wear a surgical mask (or a mask that actually works). Try siting for 2.5 hours with a mask over your nose and mouth - not comfortable. If there was an active ongoing pandemic, not a problem, but no where in Rochester (except a health care facility) does any business or organization recognize that there is any need for any Covid mandate. My rating is 5 for the orchestra and 1 for the U of R, therefore, a 3 average rating. Until the U of R butts out - I will not attend any future orchestra event - too bad the U of R is out of touch with reality. Perhaps the U of R should look at the statistics so that one of the best orchestras in the nation is able to financially survive.
MoreThis is a delightful venue for musical performances of all kinds. There is a main theatre and some smaller ones in the same building. The city cleaned up the neighborhood years ago so it's pretty safe. The only challenge is parking, but we've always managed to find a spot on the street within two blocks. The music school sometimes holds free events, and there are elegant restaurants nearby, so the area is really a great cultural resource.
