Palmer Park Park ·$

The historic Palmer Park was established when the then U.S. Senator Thomas Palmer granted land in the year 1893. Named after the senator, this public park is sprawled over an area of 296 acres (120 hectares). It is home to a time-honored log cabin, demarcated cycling and hiking trails, tennis courts and a large golf course. The shore of Lake Frances, a serene pond within the park, serves as a tranquil spot for day picnics. The on-site Splash Park for kids is replete with multi-colored fountains drizzling water in all directions.

Just saw a little bit of this park as it was our midway stop for the Tour Detroit bike ride. Paved road with bike lane as you enter. Lot of tress and greenery along with a pond. I’m the future I would like to return and see more.

So we came again, and WOW! What a difference a couple years makes. I absolutely love the windows. Now, the interior just needs redone. I'm glad they put some work into it, as I could imagine back in 2016 what kind of potential it had.

Stopped here expecting different I guess. Really sad how it looks compared to pictures from other people I've seen plus it's much smaller than I would've thought. But it's really neat seeing it, the lighthouse and the bell. It's not paved to the log cabin so now you're warned. I give it 5 stars just because the history and hoping it'll get restored.

Palmer Park use to be a nice place to hang out with your friends and chill in the summer. Now it has been taken over by solicitors of all kinds and people who drink and play loud music. You can still see people walking and running getting there exercise and the police station and golf course are still there just be careful.

This area has started some of the turn around for Detroit. There are some beautiful old homes here that you really must take some time to see to appreciate the roots of our city.
