tripadvisorGreat summer theater setting, We saw Great Balls of Fire. The sound system was too loud. I felt my own ear drums pulsing and knew my wife, who wears hearing aids, would be in trouble, even though she popped them out. She is very careful to protect what natural hearing she has left. So we left our third row seats and went the very back where the sound was able to dissipate through some openings in the dropdown curtains. She then did some makeshift ear plugs. The show itself was above average. Seats were comfortable enough. About 1 1/2 hours long including intermission. Friendly staff. One gentleman gave me a fairly thorough history of the area during intermission.
MorePerformance - Apollo's Fire - Vivaldi's Four Seasons - excellent sans red headed conductor, overly pleased with herself, spoke to adult audience throughout as if speaking to children. Alan Choo, violinist, an absolute joy to hear and to watch! Theater/grounds - 700 seat open air theater (roof covering) totally miserable on hot, humid July night. Huge buses headed to (Mt Gretna is wooded private lake community) drop off area created traffic jams. Hundreds disembarked from buses in darkened wooded area with no event staff in sight to guide them to ticket booths, varied entrances, bathrooms, water access, concession stand. Ditto for finding one's way back to vehicles post performance. . . in dark. Is anyone in charge? Once was enough. Will not return.
MoreCOVID-19 empty beauty - no performances, no visitors, but beautiful Theater by itself is waiting when virus disaster gone and the new season awakes life on stage.
MoreHave seen several productions here. Very nice venue. Shows are always professional, and entertaining.
MoreWe attended the Mt. Gretna presentation of the musical 'Oliver'. The acting was really quite good for such a small theatre and we found our seats were comfortable we were able to view the entire musical without any problems. The theatre is not air conditioned and has just a roof and no walls, so the air flows thru nicely when there is a breeze. Otherwise, they have huge fans on the ceiling.
