Strawberry Square Shopping Center & Mall ·$$

A one million square foot complex stands in the form of Strawberry Square, an important landmark in Harrisburg. Many of the boutiques within are exclusive and cater to a certain class of people; names include Michael Boyd, LaFemme Jolie and Dress Barn. Strawberry Square also boasts of numerous eateries such as Sakura Tokyo Expressc, Santa Fe Taco Factory, Gingerbread Ma, so the growling stomachs are taken care of after a long shoppping spree. The Square is truly a delightful mix of retail and commercial complexes in the city of Harrisburg. Besides stores, the Square is home to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and also the Temple University.

Strawberry Square is just a homeless hangout these days. I pass through a lot for work. I’ve been asked for money, cigarettes, or other things. The other week I was pestered by someone who wanted me to buy the socks off their feet. The place smells, homeless sleep in stairwells and the arcade, they scream randomly at people when they walk by. Most of the women in my office refuse to step foot in Strawberry Square anymore. I won’t give any of the businesses my money until they clean that place up. It’s terrible.

I was there just after 4 P.M. on a Saturday. It was supposed to close at 5 P.M. All but three places were closed. My only options were a Rite Aid, a bike shop, and an Asian concession stand. The building was almost deserted except for a few people sitting in the food court.

These restaurants are only open a couple of hours so if you are heading to Harrisburg and try to find a place to eat that’s open on the weekend good luck. Only open full days when all the state employees are there during the week.

This is a 1978 redevelopment project that restored 19th and 20th century buildings to create an interior shopping mall. the mall is not large, but offers some good retailers, along with a food court at the 2nd level that has a lot of seating and food choices. The central location works well with the downtown area and government functions nearby. I had some pretty good Chinese food on the upper level, and my gf had fired ice cream from the mexican food place.

Evidently they wanted to clean up their image. Those homeless people just didn't want to leave them alone! When would the big spenders come back? And yet, the primary attraction seems to be the food court on the second floor and a couple of television sets with closed captioning and a choice of one TV channel. The Negro Security Patrol seems totally bored, bored enough to hassle the people that do frequent the mall, sometimes with money in their pockets. I've been asked to leave for carrying luggage, for having empty aluminum cans on my person, for dozing off on a bench along the mall perimeter. Negro Security Patrol has entered men's rooms and acted so weird people have left the mall. An elderly Negro Security Patrol negro told me I could not use the restroom because he was cleaning. Evidently he did not notice that I was only cleaning my glasses. Strawberry Studmuffin Square, in my opinion, has fallen to dumb Negroes who seem bored and hate their jobs. Maybe if they would have studied and got better grades. The food is pretty good upstairs, except I wouldn't recommend Subway Subs. Cute variety -- sushi, Chinese, Italian, tacos, and a fitness center!
