Our mission is to tell classic stories in new and exciting ways for the entertainment and enlightenment of children and adults alike. Gamut employs a full-time company of eight professional artist/managers. Gamut's regional reputation attracts these highly talented performers who attend a competitive national audition procedure and relocate to Central PA to be part of the company. Gamut Theatre Group also hosts and participates in numerous community outreach and educational programs throughout the year including KIDSFEST and Free Shakespeare in the Park. Gamut Theatre Group is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization. Gamut Classic Theatre is located on the third floor of Strawberry Square in downtown Harrisburg. This innovative theatre space seats 100 patrons on three sides of the performance stage, bringing the action and drama close to the audience and creating an intimate viewing experience. Most notably distinguished by the three levels of scaffolding that line its theatre walls, 'The Gamut' is one of the most unique performance facilities in the area and has often been compared to an off-Broadway space.

tripadvisorOur family went to see the Lion,Witch, and the wardrobe. We were never here before. All the actors both young and old were extremely great. Even my adult children enjoyed the way they created the costumes to the way it was portrayed. They even have a counter where you can buy a drink ,candy, cookies and they even had warm apple cider. Overall a gret perforrnance.
MoreThis is a small community theater best known for its Popcorn Hat Players children's theater productions. We attended a showing of a 15th century play. On a shoestring budget the theater managed to produce a remarkably watchable play! Acting was well done and the costuming whimsical. We will be going back for improvisational theater soon.
MoreGamut is an excellent theatre to visit in downtown Harrisburg. They are close to many restaurants if you want to get dinner first. They also have a lounge with snacks/drinks and a fun casual atmosphere. The Popcorn Hat shows are fun for kids (and adults) and the main-stage shows are incredibly well done. An added bonus is the theatre school for kids. I have not found another activity where my kids feel so welcome and encouraged to be themselves while learning how to handle themselves on stage. This is a group worth supporting.
MoreGamut Theater Group is now in its new digs - a rehabbed church in downtown Harrisburg. They did a stellar job and should be very proud of their new venue. The plays, etc. are well done. My favorite thing is the Popcorn Hat Players and taking my grandchildren to introduce them to theatre. Giggles galore! And not just from the children :) These actors work very hard and it shows.
MoreWe attended a Saturday matinee performance of Cinderella put on by the Popcorn Hat Players, a children's theater group. Our family ranged in ages from 3 to 89, and we all found the performance delightful and witty. Since the performance was geared toward smaller children, the acting company explained a bit to the children about what to expect, and then led the children in an active song with motions to let them get their wiggles out so they could pay attention. The audience sits on 3 sides of the small stage located in a former church, and doors at the rear are kept open for parents who must excuse themselves with their children. The large room one level below the stage area is set up with a large TV so the parents and children who had to leave can continue watching the performance. Ideal! This theater also has upcoming performances geared for adults, too (ex, Shakespeare). What a wonderful asset to the community!
