Visited with our almost 2.5 year old & we absolutely loved it. We went about 2 hours prior to closing on a Wednesday and there was barely anyone there which was nice. Stroller friendly. I recommend starting off from the left (Asia side) and making your way all the way around to the other side to finish. At the very end, there will be an indoor reptile exhibit with air conditioning to cool you off. Finish off with your toddler petting and grooming the baby goat with a nice roomy handwashing station to wrap up the visit! It’s a win win in my book lol A very thought out zoo. You can really see the animals being cared for. Was able to see 95% of the animals in their exhibit which is super nice compared to the one in Washington D.C. Though this one is much smaller, I prefer this one and was fascinated with some of the animals that we saw. I highly recommend this for families to check out. We also appreciate how close we were able to get with the giraffes and they were an absolute joy to see. Kudos to the staff for keeping the park clean and doing a fantastic job with up keeping the zoo for guests. We appreciate you guys!

I have been to a lot of the big name zoos, so considering, I was very impressed with this zoo. The price was very reasonable and the grounds were well maintained. The animals appeared to be cared for well and the many different species to see and learn about. The giraffes and turtles were favorites among out group. Be sure to read the information boards about eat animal. There was plenty of places to sit and rest, but one complaint would be lack of shade. It was overall a beautiful day at the zoo for both kids and adults.

The Virginia Zoo delivered. Clean, well-designed, and surprisingly immersive. The animals looked healthy, active, and the habitats felt intentional; there was a great flow the entire way through.Standouts: vibrant reptiles, up-close , the meerkats were by far our favorite, and the lioness lounging like royalty.Perfect mix of relaxing and engaging. Easy win for a few hours well spent. Would absolutely go back.

I purchased a membership as a Christmas gift for a family member’s family so when I came for a visit we had to go. Overall I wasn’t super impressed. It wasn’t the worse zoo I’ve been to but it also wasn’t the best. For being summer there were many empty exhibits. Unless there were more animals somewhere else, many exhibits only had one animal. I liked how you could see exhibits from multiple views or levels. The goat petting/brushing exhibit was different. Most bathrooms didn’t appear well taken care of, especially the African Village where we had lunch. Be sure to check that your stall has toilet paper. Near the entrance/exit there are water fountains that children can play in so I would suggest a change of clothes or a swimsuit.

The zoo was ok with some really good exhibits but other areas were very sparse with long walks between animals with nothing in-between, it needs more animals.
