tripadvisorThirty Five Wacker Drive is a really nice old building just off the riverbank to me the old clock in the corner is the eye catching piece.
MoreThis historic skyscraper and Chicago Landmark (built in 1926, designated in 1994) is located in the vibrant, business area of Chicago, at 35 E Wacker Drive, that is a northern edge of the Chicago Loop, facing Chicago River, Chicago Riverwalk, and many iconic buildings and sites across the river. The 523 ft (160 m) skyscraper fits perfectly in the architectural ensemble of many other buildings in the area -- theatres, museums, shops, restaurants. The building was designed by an American architect Frederick P. Dinkelberg and a Norwegian born, American civil engineer Joachim Giaever. A signature feature of Thirty Five E Wacker -- besides its architectural finesse -- is also the antique Father Time clock on the corner of Wabash Ave and E Wacker Drive. This visit, I took photos of the skyscraper from the AMA Plaza across the Chicago River and from Wabash Avenue Bridge. Imo, Thirty Five E Wacker building is very photogenic -- all forty floors, the decorated facade, and the beautiful dome look spectacular!
More35 East Wacker is a Chicago landmark building situated at the intersection of Wabash Ave. and East Wacker Dr. just south of the Chicago River. It was constructed between 1925-27 by architects Joachim Giæver and Frederick P. Dinkelberg. You will see an impressive, imposing facade of Classic Revival style that is perhaps best appreciated from across the river where you can view the two tower stack and dome. From up close, you can also see a charming antique clock topped by a bronze winged figure near street level. It is an attractive historic landmark building and nice contribution to the Chicago Skyline.
MoreThirty Five E Wacker building is located on the intersection of the very busy E Wacker Drive and Wabash Ave; it's a historic, large and tall, 40-story 523 ft (about 160 m) impressive skyscraper, that during its history (built in ~ 1926) has gone through multiple ownerships, various tenants and renovations. The interior repairs and renovations are currently going on, as well. Sometimes, this building is called Jewelers' Building, as it used to be called historically; since 1994 it is designated as a Chicago Landmark.I think, that the most attractive and memorable outdoor detail about Thirty Five E Wacker building is its magnificent dome, and also the antique Father Time clock, that both so nicely decorate the building, facing the Chicago River. The building itself fits quite harmoniously in the line with many other modern and historic buildings of Wacker Drive, that is the northern part of the Loop area of the city. The current tenant in the building is the French-American Chamber of Commerce in Chicago. The building was also featured in many TV series, as well as in some scenes of Christopher Nolan's 2005 film Batman Begins.
MoreYet another iconic Chicago building locate at 35 East Wacker Drive its the Jewelers' Building, use to have a car lift inside it, well worth a viewing.
