Albertina Kerr Center Landmark

This former protective home for abandoned children is now a walk through history. Dating back to 1907, the building, old photographs and other items are all straight out of another time. There is a lot to see inside and out, including the Kerr Nursery, listed as a National Historic Place. Have lunch in the restaurant between 11:30a and 1p and contribute to a good cause, as the proceeds go to the agency, which still provides assistance for children in the community. There is no charge for admission.

Three of us, friends from High School 40+ years, gathered for a Saturday Holiday Tea. The menu included normal tea sandwiches, scones, and deserts. One of us is gluten free and her needs were met. So much fun!

The luncheon room was FULL--great excuse to go again. This place is amazing--antiques, a thrift store. Beautiful setting and done for charity.

The lunch room is light and airy, and looks out over a small garden. The food was very good, inexpensive, and served by kind volunteers.

The two reviews previous to mine are a bit confusing. Albertina Kerr has several things going for it. There is a consignment antique shop, a consignment jewelry and gift shop, a thrift store and a restaurant. The restaurant is called Albertina's Kitchen so if you want reviews on the food (wonderful) search under that name. I go for the consignment shop. New items are being consigned every Wednesday and Friday. Each time I go in the shop it has a completely different look. They take great pains with display and work to group like items by color and style. Elegant instead of jumbled willy nilly. They also showcase themes each month. Right now there is a Downton Abby vibe. So if you are coming for lunch, show up early or linger after to go through the gift shops and support the cause.
