Alaska Botanical Garden Botanical Garden ·$

Spanning 110-acre (44.5 hectares), the Alaska Botanical Garden includes native perennials, an enclosed herb garden and an outdoor rock garden. Created in 1991 by volunteers, the garden has become an educational resource as well as a stunning showcase of Alaskan plants and wildflowers. Paths throughout allow for easy travel and a 1.2-mile (1.9 kilometer) hike provides views of the Chugach Mountains. One unusual feature is a still-used dog-mushing trail that travels through the garden.

What a beautiful place to walk around. The gardens are so inspiring and surprising that so many plants I grow in the south can be grown in Alaska.

Carefully curated and managed, this well-organized botanical garden was a lovely find in Anchorage. We were able to ride our bicycles there and really enjoyed both the people and the flowers that we came across. Most importantly, they recommended very effective mosquito spray that we used the rest of our trip! Staff were friendly and hard-working, happy to talk to us.

We stopped on the way to the airport and it fit our 45 minutes we had available. The gardens, trees and different environments were interesting in that you learn a lot about native Alaskan species and what can be grown in the area. Nice and easy to walk trails. The size of the place is not expansive, so can be done in the time we had available. The store is small, but there was a nice selection of plants outside that many were purchasing to take home. Would recommend if in the area.
