tripadvisorI have been living in the Dayton area for 10 years; wish I had heard about this wonderful theatre a long time ago. Saw my first show there this weekend, The Minutes... what a great performance! I cannot say enough good things about every aspect of my experience, but I will name a few: the friendly staff from the minute I stepped into the lobby; the superb acting; the intimacy of the theatre space; and, the close relationship to parking and restaurants. I will definitely be back.
MoreThe theater is intimate, the settings, direction, and acting is top notch. Their choices of plays are soooo depressing. Try to find a synopsis of any of their plays in which someone is not dead, dying, contemplating suicide, etc. Theater does not have to be all comedy and romance, but it doesn't have to be unrelentingly hopeless and depressed either.
MoreEnjoyed seeing our first show at this community theater. It is an excellent performance venue featuring a thrust stage and has seating for about 100. Not a bad seat in the house. Their season consists of good quality unusual shows not often performed. An incredible asset for this area. Our only complaint is that they allowed an infant into the show who of course started crying- very distracting. And as usual--not a large enough ladies restroom.
MoreWe first learned about the Dayton Theatre Guild through our friends. The shows are held on weekends, in an intimate setting of approximately 100 seats. The stage is in the middle of a U-shaped seating area. The actors, mostly local, range from high school through professional experience on stage and television. The season typically runs from August through May and includes a holiday show. Everything about these productions is fabulous--from the sets to the light, directing, and acting. We truly appreciate the wide range of plays and musicals that are offered every year at an extremely reasonable price. Seating begins a half hour before the show and is via general admission. You can order your tickets online and print at home. Tip: On opening night there is usually an after show party that is catered. Also, it is a tradition at the Theatre Guild that volunteers provide cookies for the 15 minute intermission.
