tripadvisorThis was a smaller version of the original NYC. I could only walk around it as it was not open to visitors and I spent just a couple of minutes circling it. It was designated as a historic place in the National Register. A plaque detailed it’s history as the tallest building back in the days and originally built for a renowned doctor.
MoreNeat and free. Check out the bronze of the famous photo of Butch and the wild bunch on the side. Another old building mixed in with all the new.
MoreInteresting building, has a plaque with details if interested. Passing by and looked at the architecture.
MoreReally love the architecture of this building in what is now a posh location in downtown Fort Worth. The Flatiron Building is located at the corner of Houston and West 9th streets in a an area that was also known as the “ Description Hell's Half Acre”. It was then a dangerous precinct of Fort Worth; better known as the “Red -Light District” at the early to mid 1870s in the Old Wild West. It came to be called the town's Bloody Third Ward” because of the violence and lawlessness in the area. By way of commemoration, you can also find a bronze representation of the Wild Bunch, a notorious gang led by Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kids. At the time of its completion in 1907 it was one of the city's first steel frame buildings and the tallest building in the entire North Texas. It was commissioned by a local physician named Dr. Bacon Saunders, the Dean of the Medical School College who reserved the top floor for his offices. The building was to be located on a flatiron shaped corner and was originally known as Saunders' Triangle Building.
MoreWalking central FW towards the beautiful Saint Patrick Cathedral we bumped on this small size replica. As I said in the headline it's just a pale reminder of the NYC's one, as besides it's many times smaller it also misses the rounded narrow edge, which here appears square cut. Anyway, a cute photo 1 min stop.
