Russell Byers Charter School is one of Philadelphia's premier public elementary (PK-6) schools. The mission of RBCS, which opened its doors in 2001, is to provide students with "roots and wings", and to offer a rigorous academic program grounded in Expeditionary Learning's innovative, project-based instructional model. Our nearly 500 students come from 43 different neighborhoods across Philadelphia to our beautiful school building located in the heart of the museum district at 19th and Arch. While 96% of RBCS students come from low-income families, many go on to study at the city's top public, magnet, and independent high schools, and all students leave prepared to take responsibility for their own learning, engage in their community, achieve at the highest level, and pursue a lifelong love of learning..
