Exploring the African American history in Arkansas, the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center is housed in a new state-of-the-art museum located downtown. Here visitors can get a glimpse at the past, from recordings of first-hand stories of segregation in the South, to the achievements made by African Americans in the fields of politics, business and the arts since 1870 to present day. This is one of the best free museums in the city and truly worth a visit.

tripadvisorThis might be the best hidden gem in the entire state of Arkansas! Hiding in plain sight in their biggest city of Little Rock, you might drive right past this beautiful building on Highway 70. Enter the free museum and witness the story of an organization founded to provide black families with health and burial insurance when no other company would.Walk through the poignant displays of the impact of black business owners, the struggles of their families, the strength and resilience of freed slaves, and the origins of urban renewal. It’s a fascinating display spanning 8,000 square feet. And don’t miss the black hall of fame and ball room on the third floor.
MoreDiscovered via the Arkansas Civil Rights History Audio Tour app. What a great find. Many interactive displays. Do not pass up your personal interview of Andrew Young. Plenty of parking in rear off 9th. Entrance faces 9th.
MoreThe curator(sorry forgot her name) greeted us warmly and shared several interesting facts about the name and building. We were transported back to time and filled with amazing stories and facts of that time. Very interesting to see how 9th street was its own community. Please support this cultural center if you are in Little Rock..definitely worth it.
MoreHostesses very knowledgeable, personal, and such an pleasant personality. Museum contents very informative and educational. Actually met a visitor of the museum who had a relative featured in one of the historical photos.
MoreThis is an excellent museum and very enjoyable as it delves somewhat into the history of the Mosaic Templar of America organization and much more thoroughly into the Dunbar High School - a Black School of Excellence and the cultural significance of both of these entities. The current building is a replacement of the original which was built at the same location. The 9th Street location was part of Little Rock's Black Wall Street - a thriving community of black residents and businesses. The exhibits here can bring some of what was the black experience in these days to a personal level.
