Reviews
tripadvisorWe stayed here as a family in October. The location is hard to beat: the White House, the National Mall and the monuments are all a short walk away, and Penn Quarter and Chinatown are close by for food in the evenings. The rooms were mixed. Our first room was on a low floor, dated and short on natural light, so we asked to move. The higher floor room was much better and had a good view, but we had a couple of maintenance issues when we first moved in, and it took until the next day for them to be sorted. The facilities also felt limited for a JW. The bar is small, with no draught beer, and there isn't really a proper restaurant, so we ate out every night. It's not the standard we usually expect from the brand.Once things were fixed, the staff were helpful and responsive, and they were accommodating when our plans changed.Tips: ask for a higher floor and a refreshed room when booking, plan to eat out, and note that the immediate area is mostly offices, so it's quiet after dark.Would stay again for the location, but would check on the room before arriving.
MoreI liked the interior of the rooms. Typical Marriott style but clean and fresh. But that is all that made a positive impression. This felt much more like a low-level Marriott than a JW. Front desk service in particular was poor and impersonal. When we checked in late in the evening there was a long line and lots of confusion. But the worst was the complete lack of any phone service. When you call for any service, whether it is front desk or room service, you get an AI that tells you that because of your status your call is very important and will be prioritized, only to be forwarded to some line that rings forever. I tried this multiple times over our three night stay and NOBODY ever picks up the phone. Online room service ordering was terribly dysfunctional. In the end I had to go down and talk to people at the front desk in person to order room service food. Breakfast buffet is the standard tasteless food.
MoreI would like to give a special shout-out to Diego at the front desk check-in counter for providing truly outstanding customer service!I brought guests from my home country to check in, and since they had some difficulty speaking English, I helped translate during the process. Diego was incredibly friendly, patient, and understanding throughout the entire check-in experience. He never made us feel rushed and took the time to make sure my guests felt comfortable and had everything they needed. His warm attitude, professionalism, and genuine willingness to help are exactly what you would expect from a five-star hotel. He made the check-in process smooth, welcoming, and stress-free for my guests, and his kindness made a wonderful first impression.Diego is a true example of five-star hospitality! Employees like him make a real difference in the guest experience and reflect so positively on JW Marriott Washington, DC. I sincerely appreciate his excellent service and hope his efforts receive the recognition they deserve.Thank you, Diego, for going above and beyond. Keep up the amazing work!
MoreOur stay was disappointing due to repeated service, communication, housekeeping, and maintenance issues.Prior to arrival, there were multiple communications sent to hotel management but there was no response from their end. It was frustrating to make several follow-up attempts without receiving prompt communication from the property.During the stay, reaching the front desk was consistently difficult, often requiring a 15–20 minute hold just to speak with someone. On several occasions, requests for dinner and towels took more than an hour to be fulfilled, even after multiple follow-ups.Housekeeping also did not meet reasonable expectations. The bathroom was not cleaned thoroughly, and the room was not stocked with sufficient towels or basic toiletries. We had to contact the front desk repeatedly to obtain items that should have been provided through regular housekeeping service. In addition, the air conditioning in the room did not function reliably and repeatedly shut off during the night, causing considerable discomfort.Given the lack of timely communication, delayed service, inadequate housekeeping, and air-conditioning problems, this stay did not meet the standard expected from this property.
MoreAdam Luddeke with Guest Experience was wonderful! I needed to switch my room, and he was very helpful.
