tripadvisorMy wife and I booked this hotel as part of our week long vacation 5th wedding anniversary for two nights. We had no idea this place did not provide parking as we thought hotels did. We had to pay $20 to park three blocks away. The desk receptionist (female) told us on night two we had to pay for a parking spot in an alley behind the hotel and pay 50 dollars for it. This was after paying for the room plus a room deposit which was not mentioned through booking.com. That receptionist told us we had to pay a deposit as well for the parking spot for the night on their property mind you. The next day another desk receptionist that works graveyard shift (male) told us we shouldn't have had to pay for any parking as the parking spots out front on the street were free parking all night and that all we had to do was move the car by 7 am to avoid a parking ticket all of which he said we should have been told by the other receptionist. Also that same female receptionist was asked by my wife if there were any maps of the city we could have. She said no but we found one from a very helpful person who worked at the Viceroy Hotel next door. I would not recommend the District Hotel to any tourists as they don't care about thier guests as apparrent by our experience. The female receptionist was not helpful and treated us like dumb tourists
MoreThis is by far the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. If you are reading this review, do yourself a favor and don’t stay here… If you chose to stay, please leave a comment of your experience to warn others
MoreBack in the day, this was a flop house. 14th Street was the red light district and prostitutes used the hotel for their johns. They could get hourly and nightly rates.
MoreIf I could leave less than 1 star for this hotel, I would. Let’s start from the beginning. We booked what looked like an older quaint hotel so honestly knew it wasn’t going to be perfect but definitely had expectations that were not met or even close to being met. Our first room was on the third floor, when we got onto the small dilapidated elevator we immediately noticed the concrete flooring that was showing through the laminate flooring and the layers of paint and colors on the doors. Cool, it’s just an elevator and how much were we really going to be in it anyways? We exit the elevator to carpet that looks like it hasn’t been cleaned a day since it was very poorly put in, rolls and waves and so uneven you could trip just thinking about it. Enter into our room and it’s clean. 2 queen beds. Great, we can do this. Just be careful in the hallways and take the stairs. Well as we are unpacking…… there in no refrigerator in the room anywhere. Plenty of room for one but absolutely no refrigerator anywhere to be seen. Start looking around more and we notice we don’t even have a phone to call down to the front desk. Two things that should be in every hotel room now a days. See the refrigerator is a big deal for my family. My son is a T1 diabetic and we have to keep his insulin cold or it goes bad. Obviously if we would have know about that 1 key feature not being in the room we wouldnt have booked this hotel. Walk down the stairs to the front desk and immediately notice the stairs match the carpet and elevator and are beyond filthy with layers of grime in them. I speak to the front desk about the phone and refrigerator issues and their only solution is move us down stairs so they can store his insulin in their staff refrigerator. They had no mini refrigerator they could put in the room and honestly seemed like it just wasn’t that big of a deal to them. I get it, it’s not their kid or their life and I’m sure they don’t fully understand what T1 is. They move us into a 2 full bed room on the 1st floor. So now we aren’t even getting what we paid for for our reservation but the front desk could give two sh***. It’s worth mentioning for this next part that the hotel has “Quiet hours” from 10:00pm- like 7am or something. Our last night at about 11:30PM me, my mom, AND my son were all woken up by a child running up and down the hallway over and over and over and over. It went on for about 10 minutes before I opened my door and asked his father to please have him stop, it was late and he was being loud by running up and down the hallway on laminate flooring (1st floor is the only floor that had this type of flooring installed).his father looked at me and told me I looked strung out and carried his child away. Probably about 1:30AM we were woken up AGAIN by another guest hollering HELLO down the hallway about 5 or 6 times. When my mom opened our door to look out of our room and see what was going on the front desk agent at that time looked at her said What?!? Her response was simple”I’m just trying to figure out why I keep getting woken up tonight”. He said nothing and went on about whatever he was doing. Over all I would t recommend this hotel to my worst enemy. I’m highly unsatisfied and will never be here again. This same review will be posted wherever I can post it because I feel as though everyone needs to know what they are getting into if they book here.
MoreSafety hazards and unfair financial liability imposed on guestsI would not recommend staying at this hotel due to serious safety and maintenance concerns. The property is quite old, which in itself is not an issue as long as it is properly maintained. However, several installations appear to be inadequately maintained. During my stay, I returned to the hotel late in the evening and was not informed of any specific entry procedures (such as ringing a bell). When I gently pulled the entrance door, it unexpectedly opened despite being supposedly locked, and a metal lock component detached from above and fell, almost hitting my head. This raises significant concerns about the safety standards of the facility. A properly functioning lock should prevent a door from opening. Additionally, fixtures should never be at risk of detaching in a way that could potentially cause injury to guests.I also took photographs of the lock mechanism, which appeared to be wrapped with plastic tape. While I cannot confirm whether this was part of a proper installation or a temporary repair, it suggests that there may have been a pre-existing issue with the lock. What was particularly troubling was the response from the front desk staff, who implied that I might be held financially responsible for the damage. Guests should not feel intimidated or pressured to compensate for problems that appear to stem from poor maintenance or aging infrastructure.Due to safety risks, outdated facilities, and the possibility of being unfairly charged for maintenance-related issues — even when these may result from the property’s failure to properly maintain or invest in its infrastructure — combined with the serious risk of injury from a metal component falling from above, I cannot recommend staying at this property.
