This is not just a venue for the usual rock and roll bands but also for operas and local bands; indie band Animal Collective named their 2009 hit album- Merriweather Post Pavilion after this venue. tripadvisorWe travel from Pittsburgh to Merriweather Pavilion every summer just because we love the venue. It’s so convenient to walk to from the hotel.
MoreThis is an excellent concert venue with wide array of ticket prices to suit all budgets. We saw the 2026 Outlaws Music Festival here, with Willie, Dylan, Sherryl Crow and others and it was outstanding.
MoreThis place is an outdoor venue. There is seating under cover for a premium price. You can sit out in the open on the lawn, but get there early (probably about 3:00 for a 7:30 show) if you want a good view. Warning: you'll be standing in line for a while. The gates don't open until 6:00. Bring rain gear if forecasted. Shows are rain or shine. Parking is free, but if you don't get there by 3 or 4, you'll end up on the ninth floor of an office building parking lot. We sat on the ninth floor for 45 minutes without moving trying to exit. And one beer was almost $16.
MoreAnd I was most definitely invited. I bought a ticket and everything! It seems like I see a concert here every 10 years. This past visit was the last day in June. It was the Triple Moon Tour featuring Alanis Morissette with opening guests Joan Jett & the Blackhearts and also Morgan Wade. Originally, the tour date was only Sat. Jun 29 at this Merriweather venue. However, tickets sold out and they added a second show the following night. When I showed up for the concert, they weren't able to successfully scan my ticket off my phone because ticketmaster is subpar (emphasis on the lower t in ticketmaster). Because of this, I had to go over to the venue's box office to get a paper ticket printed. I now have a souvenir so I guess that's a plus. The downside was this just took more time for me to get through security and I missed the opening act, Morgan Wade. Who?Eventually I made it to my seat which was the inside aisle seat in the 10th row of section 202. It was a pretty good seat I thought. I could see the performers on stage first-hand with my own eyes without having to rely to any large screens. The first act that I was able to see was none other than the legendary Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. Joan spoke on stage a little about her time where she lived in Maryland in her youth before moving out to California. While in town, she was able to catch a Baltimore Orioles baseball game on the Friday night before her 2-night concert set. I felt honored that I was able to catch her performance as she's the godmother of punk. Having said all that, I enjoyed the 4-5 songs they did that I actually like and was ready to see Alanis, the main reason I bought a ticket in the first place.I am going to mention that after waiting in the long concession line, it did cost a little over $43 for two beers and loaded nachos. So, I'd HIGHLY RECOMMEND making time in your schedule to GRAB DINNER SOMEWHERE OTHER THAN HERE before an event.I'm also going to mention YOU NEED to allow extra time for PARKING before your event. After listening to what was probably the number one most popular album of the 90's along with everyone else on planet Earth in Jagged Little Pill, Alanis appeared on stage and opened with Hand in My Pocket. Everyone knew all the words. If you've never been to live Alanis Morissette show, just know, Alanis can sing and Alanis can move. Even at age 50, she was running and jumping all over the stage like a crazy woman with the energy of a twenty something. A memorable performance was her You Oughta Know, which was the last song in her official setlist. After a short wait, she came back for a two-song encore, including my favorite Alanis song, Uninvited. I had my eyes closed for about half of the song since it gets me so emotional every time I listen to it. After it was done, I dropped the mic and sprinted out of the pavilion to the garage where my vehicle was parked as her last song Thank U went on in the background and served as the perfect closing piece of the evening.
MoreA huge shout-out to the friendly staff at Merriweather Post and especially Maria! I invited a friend to attend the recent Sarah McLachlan concert with me. She has an eye condition that impacts her vision, especially at night. All the staff members we interacted with online and in person were helpful and friendly, and Maria very generously upgraded us to seating that would enable my friend to enjoy the show. Thank you!
