This handsome brick row home is Baltimore's oldest residence. Restored by the Society for the Preservation of Federal Hill and Fells Point, it is filled with period furnishings and illustrates what life was like for the shipping merchants who lived in Baltimore before the American Revolution. A small garden features herb plants the type that would have been found in Colonial gardens. It is free and open to the public. The house is open for tours daily; call for more details.

tripadvisorThe Robert Long House is one of the first homes in Fells Point built on land near the corner of Thames and Ann Streets bought by Robert Long, a merchant, from the Fells family and dating to the mid eighteenth century. The colonial garden on the north and back sides of the house is well maintained, with spring flowers just coming up. The home is a beautiful brick structure that has survived fires and renovations but has been restored to its original glory and placed on the National Register of Historic Places. Robert Long had another nearby plot where he built a warehouse on the waterside of Thames and Ann Streets. Today, a wide brick promenade is there overlooking the harbor. The house is also the base of the local Preservation Society, which has been very helpful in educating me about the property and its history.
