tripadvisorIt is too bad that I did not have a chance to see inside because it was closed when I got there. Looking from the outside appearance, the Church design and architecture is so good looking. You can see and you can see it from a few blocks away. I was lucky to find a space to park just in front of the Church so I took a few photos before going to eat. Based on the history of the church, the church it was first ELC church in Frederick County and the biggest in Maryland and the largest in Maryland.
MoreMy family were members. Our son was confirmed here. I sang in the choir. My husbands funeral was here. I loved my our time at ELC. I have moved away but have fond memories.
MoreWe attended a church service here for the first time and fell in love with the sanctuary. It's beautifully designed and the sun poring thru the stained glass windows was glorious. The original church started as a log cabin back in the 1700s and later on President John Adams attended a service in the current building I believe. The pipe organ is the largest in the county with almost 3,000 pipes. The church is so historical that regularly scheduled tours take place each month. The service was pleasant and we will be returning.
MoreI believe it is on Wednesdays that a retired minister is at the church and he will talk with you and tell you the history of the church. He was an exceptionally kind man, wish I could remember his name. The church is very lovely and peaceful inside. You don't have to be a member of the faith, just stop in and appreciate the beauty, that's what we did.
MoreI was excited when I saw that this church was across the street from the historical society. I knew that it had a rich history and wanted to see the inside. The outside is a lively white and is well taken care of. However all four entrance doors were locked and there did not appear to be any place to go to get entry. Very disappointed.
