tripadvisorLike many who review I generally hit state capitols when in the city; probably approaching half or more by now. I thought this was a good example of how you can do a lot with a little - that is the materials were not especially opulent, and much of the ornamentation is done with paint and faux surfacing, but it all works together and so I think punches above its weight. Pretty deluxe printed guide offered (free). Gift shop is a hard pass. Little 'museum' at the end has some interest but it is all display cases, so depends on your desire to spend time. I did not get to see the historic governor's office (it may not be on offer - couldn't figure it out. Not as information filled as some (actually relatively little) but I found it impressive enough with friendly staff.
MoreI’ve visited over half of the state capitals in our nation and so far this one would likely rank at the bottom of my list, for there is usually something memorable about each capital. I visited with my family on a Saturday afternoon, I knew the capital building itself would be closed, but there wasn’t anything open anywhere near the capital. If you are traveling to see the state capital there isn’t much else, not a convenient store, nothing.
MoreIts free and beautiful. Well worth visiting. Lo6s of parking around. But the cafe is just vending machines comfy seating though. Great for decorating ideas. The history of the state, its pride in achievment
MoreFree to get in but had to navigate without any guidance, didn't know where we were allowed to go, what areas were restricted, and there wasn't much to see anyways. Quite boring.
MoreWe had a lovely walk around the outside of the Michigan state capital building. Lots of street parking on the meters close by. Lots of info to read. It was closed when we there but next time we will have a look inside. Well worth an hour of your time.
