tripadvisorBe aware you need advance tickets on weekends. Tips to be successful:To pick apples it’s going to be a lot of walking. A lot. Uphill and downhill. Dress appropriately. I’d suggest picking apples at the end of your stay to carry them back to your car. Otherwise you’re wandering around with bags or crates of apples. You can’t bring strollers into the orchards, it’s all rocks and rough dirt or grass. Good lines can be very long. It was a thirty minute wait to get food in the main line. There are some other options with specialty foods but those are mad e to order and could take awhile as well. It’s on a mountain, check the weather in Charlottesville, and it’s probably slightly cooler up there. Dress in layers. During the cooler days. Again, weekends are very crowded, so make sure you get tix in advance. I’d suggest coming on a weekday if possible to avoid these crowds. It’s a fun experience, the apple cider donuts are amazing. Just be prepared.
MoreSo disappointing to be corralled around like cattle, having to stay in the car just for the drive through store, $14 Gal Cider, $18 a bag of apples!$10 entrance fee/person to just actually visit there.Feels like rip-off. I'll never go back.
MoreAfter the very steep & very winding roadway up to the hilltop, 3 generations of us had a nice midday visit here. Views of distant mountains & the horizon on one side are beautiful & the city-town of Charlottesville are on the other. In between, we passed by the large apple orchard as we walked further up the steep hill to the sprawling orchards where our grandsons had a good time twisting off a bagful of peaches ($15 for a small bag). (Watch out for the poison ivy that happily grows between the lines of trees). After, we all had very good peach flavored soft ice cream, peach Bellinis & the great views of even more orchards. Lots of picnic tables to enjoy the snacks & views from. There is a busy & densely-outfitted retail store, an outdoor market selling bags of peaches & peach-related items & Bold Rock Cider has a selling space behind the main building.
MoreThis is a great spot for the kids and adults. At times of the year one can pick apples…most time there are apple and/or peaches for sale. Their store is filled with kitchey items many fun to take home. If you don’t buy anything get a Carmel apple cookie just delicious!Btw they are not dog friendly
MoreDon't go. Especially on a weekend in season. But really ever. This place has jumped the shark and it's now really just a place where surly people in overalls try to separate you from as much of your money as possible. $9 bucks a person to buy overpriced donuts. The views are still great but that's the only part of this former institution that remains. Everything else is just crowded, cheesy and sad.
