My wife and I highly recommend Oyster House Antiques (OHA) in Charlottesville, Virginia for *all* of your furniture repair needs. Gerry of OHA is a fine furniture master craftsman and is highly skilled in antique repair work. He successfully repaired two of my wife's irreplaceable heirloom pieces consisting of an ancient wooden Chinese wash basin stand (more than one hundred years old) and a unique Ching Dynasty porcelain figurine. He restored both to absolute perfection! We are so grateful for Gerry's superior craftsmanship. We are also very appreciative of the many beautiful and diverse traditional Chinese antiques that OHA has to offer and for their cheerful service!

I lived in Asia for over 3 years so when I saw this shop on the Historic Downtown Mall in Charlottesville, I was super excited. The shop is jam packed with Asian items and I would not enter with children as they are libel to break something. The walking areas are narrow, so move slowly. I say numerous items that I either had similar pieces or wanted to join my collection. However the prices are really high. I mean like 5-10 times what I paid in Asia. Now I understand that they can easily charge more here in the US, but some of these prices really took be aback. Also they have things marked at 19th century Chinese antiques, well unless they are family piece and they got permission, nothing older than 50 years old items are permitted to leave mainland China, so be wary.
