Founded in 1847, Hollywood is one of the oldest cemeteries in Richmond. Confederate President Jefferson Davis, General J.E.B. Stuart, Presidents James Monroe and John Tyler, novelists James Branch Cabel and Ellen Glasgow, and 18,000 Confederate soldiers, 11,000 of the unknown, are a few examples of the historical figures buried here. Hollywood has the city's best view of the James River. When the cemetery was first established, neighbors declared that the rushing of the falls would, literally, wake the dead. Guided tours are available on the last Sunday of each month through October.

tripadvisorEnjoyable side trip to absorb local and National history. Lots of Confederate history and well known individuals located here.
MoreHollywood cemetery is a massive huge cemetery in Richmond. There are many famous people like James monroe and president Tyler. The gps to the gravesites on Google are not accurate. This cemetery is a great place to walk around and great views of the river.
MoreA very large cemetery with Presidents John Tyler and James Monroe buried there. A large section for the civil war soldiers made me sad to see so many graves of them they were so young. Famous authors and many high profile figures. Definitely a must see place when visiting Richmond VA. Plan on at least two hours.
MoreThe tour was interesting but mainly uphill walking.Tour guide went at reasonable pace.A tuk-tuk would have been so much better
MoreWow! The cemetery is huge. I had seen some photos on the internet and decided to visit. Far exceeded expectations. The first day I walked.. only saw a small amount. The 2nd day I drove...far bigger than I expected and never saw all of it either. Was suprised on the 2nd day to see a mass of graves outside the perimeter. Very well kept, very interesting and very dignified.
