tripadvisorTitle: Theft, Cover-Up Behavior, and Total Lack of Accountability – Absolutely UnacceptableI have stayed in many hotels around the world, and this has been, without any doubt, one of the worst experiences I have ever had with a hotel.I left two suitcases in the custody of Delta Hotels by Marriott Chesapeake Norfolk over a weekend (December 13–14), with full authorization from hotel staff. When I retrieved my luggage, one of the suitcases had clearly been opened and personal items had been stolen — including essential and high-value medical supplies such as an EpiPen and expensive prescription medication. This alone is a serious security failure. But what followed is even more alarming. The hotel manager explicitly asked me not to call the police, claiming it would unnecessarily escalate the situation. Trusting the hotel to handle the matter properly, I agreed — which in hindsight was a mistake. The hotel acknowledged the incident and opened a claim. However:Their insurance later refused coverage, classifying the case as theftResponsibility therefore falls directly on the hotelAnd since then: complete silenceNo resolution. No compensation. No accountability. My calls and emails have simply been ignored. This is not just poor customer service — it is a complete breakdown of security, responsibility, and basic professionalism. When a hotel takes custody of your belongings, there is an implicit obligation to protect them. In this case, they failed — and then failed again by refusing to properly address the consequences.Even more concerning is the attempt to discourage police involvement, followed by total disengagement once the situation became inconvenient.I strongly advise anyone considering this hotel:Do NOT leave luggage under their custodyDo NOT trust their internal processes if something goes wrongDocument everything immediately and involve authorities if neededI regret not having contacted the police immediately.Until this is resolved, I cannot recommend this property under any circumstances.
MoreI needed to stay in the area overnight so I opted for this Marriott property, a Delta to stay the night. Checking in was quick, simple, and great. The lady who checked me in was friendly and efficient at checking me in. I got an upgrade (I’m Titanium status) and she explained their Pantry to me as well. This property has a full service bar and restaurant in the lobby and each time I walked in/out that place seemed to have quite a bit of business happening. The parking lot was interesting as it was the first Marriott property I’ve seen with reserved parking close to the door for Bonvoy members – which is nice! But if we’re all Bonvoy members, it doesn’t prove effective nor beneficial. The room was big, but dated. The bathroom did have a nice shower stall, but the colors are definitely suggestive of needing to be updated and the carpet in the room and furniture were definitely showing signs of wear & tear. The bed was open under it and when I looked, it was a dust jungle – yuck! Along the wall next to the bed, by the bedside table was all very dusty and clearly hadn’t been vacuumed in years. The bed was ok, not very comfy. The TV didn’t work properly – But I’m not going back to the desk to complain, nor am I calling and waiting for a maintenance person to come, this stuff should all work properly when they give the rooms out. Housekeeping should either check or there should be a weekly maintenance check. In this case, the streaming channels kept saying the TV wasn’t connected, so I watched regular TV, which isn’t what I prefer.I hit up the Pantry the next morning for coffee… I immediately noticed the exact same cookies and muffins that were there when I checked in the day before and checked the Pantry the night before as well… Not very appetizing. The coffee is provided via their espresso machine and I opted for an Americano and it was HORRIBLE! Not even good for free! I ended up taking a few sips and tossing it out.Overall, it was decent… Far from the best, but not too bad. I’d stay here again, but will most likely stay elsewhere next time I’m in this area.
MoreWhen I read reviews I assume that the great ones are probably paid for and the terrible ones might be people who you can't make happy. But I did make a decision to stay at this hotel based on the reviews on this site and so feel compelled to take a few minutes to write a review. My experience was no where close to the positive reviews posted here (most of which I conclude must have been paid for by the owner or manager). Bathroom was reasonably clean, but the furniture in the room and the carpet was all covered in stains (photos attached). Black out curtains were broken on one side and could not be opened, so limited sunlight experienced in the room during the say. Room wasn't made up after our first night so had to go down to the desk to at least have someone come up with fresh towels (another guest was complaining about lacking service just in front of me, so it was more than one room). No coffee cups on her cart, so another trip down to the desk. On our way out second day, asked them to MAKE SURE our room was cleaned. Bed was made and towels were refreshed, but still no coffee cups replaced and no bath mats left, so another call to the front desk. Elevators looked like they had not been cared for in years, with dirty and broken tiles, etc. Tile throughout the building seemed in disrepair. Overall, didn't come close, in my opinion, to meeting Marriott standards, nor meeting the 4.5 star average reviews. On the positive side, most of the staff was pleasant during all these interactions.
MoreAmazing three day stay, Kewaun & Adrien were such a dynamic duo ! They helped our entire biker group immensely & we will definitely be returning! Clean hotel, decent breakfast. Decent rooms.
MoreChesapeake is our layover spot for trips to the Outer Banks. We started staying at the Delta hotel on our way down, typically on a Saturday in September. There are always events going on while we’re there but the staff manages them well. Parking can be a bit of a challenge. There are lots of nearby restaurants to choose from. Rooms are clean, modern, and well maintained. We’ll continue staying at this hotel into the future.
